How bad would it be/hurt to pierce your lip yourself if you got the right tools and such?

Lips don't hurt that much, (did hurt more thsn my septum piercing, though) just the healing process getting lips pierced suck. Everyone's pain tolerance if different, though.

Don't, doll, don't.

Don't do it. There are so many things that can go wrong. Even if you have the correct tools, you need an autoclave to sterilize them. There is no other method to proper sterilization.(burning on stove, boiling..etc) You also have to worry about the risk of infections. You must be trained in cross-contamination to properly avoid bacteria getting all over your stuff, and possibly giving you an infection. To perform a safe and sterile tattoo, you must also have a safe and sterile enviornment. You cannot get that in a kitchen or a bedroom. I am sorry, but I just assume you'd do it in a house. There are so many more things to worry about when doing a piecing, that is why highly trained professionals must be liscenced, and in a properly sterile liscened business.

If you're too young, just wait. Please. Only let a professional do it, in a parlor.

Piercing yourself is usually more painfull than letting a pro do it. You tend to go slower because you feel it. I am a pro, and I still prefer to have someone else pierce me.
On top of that there is the sterility issue, which was wonderfully explained by Miss Murder. I paid $2100 for my autoclave, I doubt that's an expense you want to take on.
Of course on the price issue, for you to go out and buy all the tools, gloves and other supplies you would need to do it properly, you might as well just pay a pro to pierce you. It would be cheaper.
If you're too young, well just wait a couple of years untill you can go to a pro. You will have a much nicer pircing (you know, straight, properly placed, etc) There is a reason that we undergo at least a year as an apprentice. It takes a long time to learn how to pierce properly.

As a piercer, I advise against this. Not because someone like me can make money, but because this piercing is easy to screw up, as are most. The chances of you getting it straight and with the best placement for your lip is slim. Chances are you'll do it and it'll be crooked or misplaced, off center or just somewhere you dont like it, then you'll have to butcher your lip again and again to get it right. And then you risk infection, you think you are being clean, but its so much easier to get an infection than you think. Please just go have a piercer do it. Bite the bullet, I'm sure $40ish isn't that bad for you to pay. Piercing yourself is always more painful too.

Oh, just so you know, pain is relative. No one can tell you how bad it will hurt you, but if you really wanted the piercing done, pain wouldn't be a factor here. I have my lip pierced it was about as bad as biting it. Good luck to you and your lip.

I don't think the pain would be much worse than biting your lip, or at least that's what I've been told. However I don't think doing it yourself is a good idea. There are way to many blood vessels that run through your face and mouth. You also don't have the ability or knowledge to properly sterilize the equipment, there is to great a risk of infection setting in. Doing it yourself is dangerous, it doesn't cost that much so go have it done by a professional.

Ok, I never pierced my lip, but I did my ears and my bellybutton and I would say it was uncomfortable but not that painful. Let's say a 6 would be the level I'd give it. I'm not sure about a lip, but I'm sure it's similar.

I don't think the PAIN would be your biggest problem. If you do it wrong or don't properly sterilize, you could get a really bad infection or worse.

Let a professional do it.
