My doctor told me yesterday that I would lose sight in my eye real soon, and when I do it will be like a black curtain falling at once. He said there was a gel like blob forming over my eye which as I understand it, hardens and causes the retina to completly detach from the nerves. Wouldn't you think that if it was as bad as he made it out to be that he could have performed some type of corrective surgery right then, or set me up to come back for surgery? I'm not feeling real good about his diagnosis, and am considering seeing someone else for another opinion. Just wanted your take on this. Serious answers only. Thanks

The way I understand this is the retina can not be reattached. They can however sort of make a weld to keep it from tearing off completely. I would get a second opinion on this if I was you.

Good luck!

This is quite vague really..

I believe your doctor should give you the diagnosis.. I mean the name of the disease you have..

I cannot think of a disease that causes gradual retinal detachment after an optic nerve stroke that is un-stoppable by laser or by surgery.

however, I won't go as far as saying your doctor is wrong until better information is available.. sure there is a fundus picture or OCT or any investigation done that you can show us to help you..

or at least what is his diagnosis.. what are your symptoms.. what do you complain of.. and did he suggest any treatment?

I really want to help you .. but you have to provide more information..

Please contact me with any further details you can provide..
