Do you call yourself a Chrtistian?
No one can call himself a true Christian if he is not in the Church of Christ.
You can not accept Jesus and reject his church at the same time.

This Church is the Catholic Church.

Jesus built his Church on Peter (Matthew 16:18-19). It will be forever. It is the fullness of Jesus (Ephesians 1:22-23).
The Church with the apostles was very small at first but it grew big and has been with us teaching the truth since the day of penticost until today.
Who agrees and will be reconciled with Christ?

The world is overrun with evil thanks to the division of Christians, which is contrary to what Jesus wanted (John 17:20-23).
After surviving the greek schism of the east, the Church of Jesus was torn to pieces by that heretic and Anti-Christ, Martin Luther. Luther was working for the devil to destroy Christianity.

Natty: Peter is human, that is why Jesus rebuked him. The Church of Jesus on Earth is led by humans.

Nice girl: you are taking the Bible out of context. The Catholic Church put together the Bible. The Church is in the Bible if you look. The Catholic Church is the pillar and foundation of truth: 1 Timothy 3:15

Papa bear: You are seriously misinformed. There was one Church into the greeks split from the one true church. It wasn't over hollidays. The greeks could'nt accept the authority of Peter or the Pope who is the universal Christian leader.

miss vicki: In Matt. 23:9, Jesus was talking to the pharisees. Look at :
Matthew 3:9
Acts 7:2
1 Corithians 4:14-15
1 Timothy 1:2

Dezmodnar: In Acts 20:29-30, Paul was talking about the judaizers and gnostics. It can also be applied to Martin Luther.

Read Matthew 16:18, Jesus gives us his promise that the gates of hell will never overcome the Catholic Church.

Matthew 28:20, Jesus will be with the apostles until the end of the world. His apostles died, but their successors in the Catholic Church will always have Jesus with them.

Yes, the apostles built the first congregations, but they began drifting away from the teachings, even in their time. The Apostle Paul said he felt he had worked for nothing, because they had begun drifting back to the observances, rituals, and holidays of men, just as the Catholic and the Greek Orthodox churches did. They didn't stay with the teachings of Christ, but soften them with the beliefs of pagans. Nearly all other churches that split off since then followed the same path. So, how can you say Catholics are the true religion, when the Greeks began at the same time. The split over an argument of when the celebrate Christmas and Easter, two pagan based holidays.

i am a catholic and i would also class myself as a christian however the catholic church has it's faults just like every other religeon, i believe in god buy i no longer believe in the catholic church, no religeon is completly right or completly wrong...there are many ways to climb a mountain who are we to say which is right and which is wrong if all reach the top ( god )
if there were more people who believed in god or a higher power and were not so obsessed with religeon there would be no war in the world . without war the whole world be a better place for all . i no longer go to mass, i would be what is commonly known as a lapsed catholic but it does not stop me being a christian or believing in god or stop me helping my fellow man whenever possible

The catholic church was not the church or Jesus...he didn't said that ever...you should study the Bible better than that. For example, Jesus would never built his church on Peter...he was just a human being, like mary, like you, like me, he built his church on the truth peter just said in those verses: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God". The greek words for peter and rock are very different (petros-peter and petra-rock)
Get your information better before doing those questions...

I am a baptised Luther -an
Luther had some complaints against the Catholic Church, for example: Luther didn't like the fact that you had to pay the church before your sins could be forgiven. Now-a-days, that sort of thing is considered dysfunctional and cultish.

Unfortunately the catholic church was founded upon a misunderstanding of Jesus statement to Peter Mathew 16:18 A better understanding of the greek language would bare this out. Jesus called Simon Peter which is petros in the greek meaninga stone that might be thrown or easily moved and referred to himself as the Rock. This reference to himself being the Rock is a common theme in the bible. The Rock of our salvation and the chief cornerstone that the builders rejected. No where in the new tetamnet do you find any of the other disciples or apostles referring to Peter as the head of the church. In fact what you do get is a denunciation from the Apostle Paul when he learned some followers were aligning themselves up with their favourite church leaders. 1 Corithians 11-17 For I have been informed concerning you my brethrens by Chloe's people that there are quarrels among you. Now I mean this that each one of you is saying I am of Paul, and I of Apolllos, and I of Cephas (Peter), and I of Christ." Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul. Here Paul is clearly teaching the believers that the apostles were not the foundation of the faith but Jesus was. Again Paul refirms this when he states in 1 Corinthians 3:11 For no other foundation can be laid than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Clearly he is stating the church is to be built on Christ not Peter. There is also this curious verse in Mark 9: 38 & 39. John said to him teacher we saw someone casting out demons in your name and we tried to forbid him because he was not following us. But Jesus said "Do not hinder him, for there is no one who shall perform a miracle in My name and be able soon afterword to speak evil of me. Although some of the disciples felt some exclusivity to the message Jesus set them straight. What is interesting to, is the Catholic church now accepts other Christian groups as being authentic believers although they didn't always. Fortunatley for us it won't be the catholic church we stand before on judgement day and if I had to place my trust in one or the other I would put in Jesus not any man or church for that matter. I know there is alot of talk about tradition but we must adhere again to the words of Jesus who told the highly religious people of his day you make the word of God of no effect by your traditions. Although this was applied to the Pharisees, all men can as easily fall into the same trap. Luckily we have the scriptures to compare our practises with and see if we are following the same beliefs that they were. I am grateful for the fact the Catholic church stored a number of these manuscripts but they didn't write them. In some instances they copied some of them but there are early Greek mauscripts that pre-date the formation of the Cahtolic church. Note I also saw an rticle in the Toronto Star some number of years ago which stated that the catholic church now recognized that Luther was correct. So what do you make of that? One last thought I learned an important truth while I was in the Catholic church from my catholic parents. We were taught correctly one of the central themes of the bible which is the first commandment which is to Love the Lord your God with all your heart, strenght, mind...So put simply we are to put God first. This includes putting God before your church or denomination or any person including the pope or any earthly authority. This doesn't mean these people are necessarily wrong or in opposition to God but we are none the less to put our faith in God not people or instutions. No where do you find Jesus suggesting to replace your faith in God with belonging to a particular organization or any person. People as good as they are make mistakes. The message in the bible was to repent and believe on Jesus not peter or any denomination. I know it is dufficult when you have been taught one thing is true for so long and not allowed to question it however if we are to put God first as we are commanded then we must reject anything that would try to replace him as our spritual authority. Also in the new testament the believrs were first called Christians there was no referance to Rome until much later when a certain traditon had gained dominance. When you look through the scriptures and you find unbelievrs told how to become Christians you alway find the instruction to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ no mention of believing in Peter or believing in the Roman Catholic church. I really hope you haven't replaced loving the Lord your God with all your heart with your devotion to the Pope or the church. Sincerely Edward. I saw an article some years ago in the Toronto Star saying that the catholic church now reccognized that Martin Luther was right. I was suprised when I saw that article but not totally as my own perish Priest quite awhile back said that that Luther should have been made a saint not ex-communicated. Since the current Pope was the theological advisor to the last Pope and considering he is from Germany the home of martin Luther it didn't totally suprise me. Finally as much as some traditions are harmeless we all need to be careful that we don't become lovers of tradition at the expense of becoming lovers of truth.

I'm a Christian but taking bits and pieces of versus isn't good. Look what happens when we take a bit of a verse further down in Matthew 16. Probably not what we're looking for is it?

Versus 22 to 24 - specially 23:

22Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!"

23Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

24Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Grace(not law) unto you, and peace(not division),
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Being a Christ-ian is about Christ: peace and not dividead, not about Jesus: division & not peace.

As for Peter he's the only man in the Bible called Satan; But also told when(not if) he's converted, to strengthen(not weaken) his brethren. And converted Peter does, with "Grace(not law) unto you, and (then) peace(not division) be multiplied", and with "grow in grace"(not remain stunted in law law).

As for Eph 1:22,23 it specifically refers only to "Christ" of "Jesus->Christ" earlier noted; Eph 2 going on to note "Christ" is our peace(not division) who abolished the law(enmity).

You would do well to note Translators of the Bible, learned men all, said: it is preposterous order to teach first and learn after. For the only thing you seem to be full of is Horeb-bull. For you sound off like the child of a McCoy having some old Hatfields vs McCoys feud, where even the McCoys feud amongst themselves over who's a real McCoy.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Yes. I do call myself a Christian.
According to your reasoning, I should therefore be in the Catholic Church.
I cannot be a member of that organization.
I SINCERELY believe the Catholic church is the fulfillment of Acts 20:29,30.
I invite you to prove me wrong.

Ok, since you put it that way.....

uh - no thanks. I'll continue to have a direct relationship with my Creator, I don't need your priests, or your bishops, your cardinals, your pope to intercede for me, I got Christ to do that for me.

Tell me your thoughts, oh member of the only church, your thoughts on Matt 23:9?
