does anyone know of any famous or well known artist that are known for going against regular art and went with their own creativity?

Pablo Picasso and Georghes Braque (fauvism) collaborated and came up with collage. Picasso's Les Mademoiselles d'avignon was dismissed as a ugly and wretched, little did they know it would be his first effort in establishing cubism. Paul Guagin's portraits caught hell from the critics. The Impressionists were given no respect, in fact, the term "impressionist" was a sarcastic slur from a prominent art critic to describe the new movement.
