I say Apple Cider

2006-10-14 16:33:07 · answer #1 · answered by jaz 5 · 0 0

That's a good question because I saw someone on the news the other week saying that cider contains a lot of polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants. These protect our cells from damage and apparently there are a lot more in cider than in apple juice. But cider contains alcohol of course which can damage your brain and liver. In small quanties alcohol can keep your blood pressure at normal levels and ward off strokes and heart disease.
I'd say on balance that cider is slightly better for you up to a point and that point is say half a pint a day.

If you are in the US, and are buying the 'cider' from a store, then there is not much difference, except for texture.

That's because of the recent FDA guidelines that cider must be pasturised if it is going to be sold to the public. Kills the taste, and a lot of the nutrients.

I grew up on real cider and I can't stand the stuff they sell these days. There is only 1 time a year I can get real cider, and they make it in front of you.
