my mom isn't very emotionally available. I don't feel I can speak w/ her about family or any other topics.
If I do try to speak w/ her on these topics she gets frustrated and begins yelling and my step dad gets involved and buts in.
Do you have any advice on how to deal w/ this sort of situation? Serious answers only please.

Try to spend some 'girl time' with your mom shopping, jogging, or whatever the two of you could enjoy together.
This will give you opportunity to speak to her privately and bring up subjects that concern you.
Also, it is easier to talk about touchy subjects when something else is going on than when the two of you are just sitting eye-to-eye.

Maybe you have to pick up some very fragile way and right time to communicate with her. If you see her in good mood or she is asking for something you can ask her back for some advice.
Don't stress yourself try to be in nice giving mood if you need help, not just be so official.

Do you have a favourite teacher at school or someone you trust in the church? Try speaking to them, if they can`t help you maybe they can direct you to someone who can. Good luck
