i bought a new engine for my car can i use the recipt as a right-off

If the car is used for your business (not your job) AND you take the acutal expenses instead of standard expenses, then yes. Otherwise, no. Sorry.

Only if you use your car in your business. This does not include driving back and forth to work.

On a personal level you cannot. If you use your vehicle in a business then it might go under vehicle expense on your Sch C.
