Apart from performance how can one get respect from people at workplace particularly those who are jealous or incompetent around you?
I often encounter people who give a sarcastic smile and take me for granted when i talk to them.
I like to know where i need to improve and
whats the solution?

Kill them with kindness, respect and professionalism. Maybe they have the wrong impression of you, so try to fix it. Take note of how you dress, and how you interact with your coworkers. Are you professional, or are you immature? Find someone in the office who seems to be well-respected, and model their behaviour. It can't hurt!

Just improve what you need to improve, and the rest is really up to the other individuals. Some people do not know the meaning of respect. sorry, but you can only change your own behaviors not other peoples. good luck and god bless

Respect must be earned..it is not quickly gained either..Make sure you keep your conversations on a professional level..and don't talk continually about your personal life... don't talk peoples heads off..be professional at all times...do your work on time ..don't talk behind other peoples backs..there is so much of that in my work..i stay out of those conversations..if someone tells you something in confidence--do not repeat it...

Try to keep conversations down to a low minumim, like the weather, Its ok to be nice to people And some people are very rude and nasty, they just think about them selves, If you feel that these people are jealous then just stick with your older friends, And the rest of the day just keep to yourselfthats the cure and solution, You try it, it works

even though respect is something you earn, some people just never change their behavior towards you because they are the true losers. they are jealous because they know they cannot accomplish what you have and act hostile. just remember that they need your respect, and not the other way around.

Earn it and learn how to respect them.. GOOD LUCK! Try and have conversations with them about life etc. That will make them have respect for you, it works.
