Depends on your preference.
Personally, I am sticking with XP for another year at least.
And yes, I have a new laptop, and planning on buying a new desktop next month.
But if you really want Vista, then I would wait and get one with it on it.

It's all the matter of preference. If you want MS Vista, I suggest waiting in order to guarantee that you can use that OS as "Vista Ready" systems may not be quiet as ready when the OS is finally released.
If you don't care for MS Vista, then just buy a computer you want now & save your money by not being "Vista Ready", unless you're planning to use your laptop as a desktop replacement.

Vista will be released in January. I would suggest waiting until AT LEAST vendors offer a free upgrade - otherwise you'll be stuck with paying extra for it.

Wait for Vista. It's worth it. Someone even says that non Vista computers will become useless. I hope they are wrong.

Truthfully it doesn't really matter, as long as the laptop meets the requirements.
