Does having your name on the lease of an apartment in good standing help your credit? If so why isn't it listed on a credit report? Is this also the case of having a cell phone in good standing in your name?

Not everybody reports to the credit bureau. You can ask your landlord if they are willing to but usually only credit cards, bank and auto loans or mortgages usually apply to that. Cell phones don't report either unless delinquent.

Yes, it helps build credit. But a better way to start is to establish a bank account and open a credit card. Pay the credit balance promptly.

Most landlords don't report to credit bureaus. Anything that does not appear on your credit report is not used to calculate your credit score. You can ask your landlords to report to the bureaus, but you can't force them to.

Apartments are not credit. They don't appear on your report unless you don't pay your rent. And that is only to let other landlords know.
