IT could be fleas, or a skin irritation or allergies.
Try finding a veterinary dermatologist in your area to take a look at your beagle. They can suggest medicated shampoos or medications or special foods or even allergy injectios so that he's not as itchy.

if it's not fleas or any kind of skin irritations due to allergies, it might be a bigger problem, some dogs develop
fixations that can result in hurting themselves...Check with your vet first, if the vet says that it has nothing to do with fleas or allergies, it's time to consider seeing an animal behaviorist to find out what the problem might be. Good luck!

Sounds like allergies. The itching can be caused from anything..like soap, food, fleas...etc. Take him to the vet they can give you a spray for the area plus talk to them about an antihistamine medication (Ive found pills work best instead of creams or sprays) For my shih tzu the vet recomended an allergy pill that can be bought over the counter at any drug store and explained how much to give him based on his weight.

could be dry skin, allergies, or even just a habit that the dog has (but probably not, only heard of it once). also could be fleas, but you should be able to tell if he has fleas on him. does he have dandruff? if so then probably just dry skin. but take him to you vet in case it's allergies or some sort of skin infection that makes him itchy or something, then you'll know for sure what it is and if it's an allergy they might be able to tell you what it is.

It sounds as if he has fleas big time. If he doesn't, then you need to get him to the vet a.s.a.p. for his sake. He could have some sort of a skin allergy or something. Poor thing.....I hope he hasn't been suffering long. If it is fleas, you need to get him to a groomer or at least wash him down good with a good flea shampoo and get Advantage for him.

He probably has hot spots as a result of flea allergies. He needs a flea bath then start him on Advantage. He's miserable. Go to the store now.
