The drink contains (in an 8 oz. serving) 100 calories, and no fat. It does contain caffeine, though the website does not list the dose.

Caffeine is addicting, but easy to "kick," (headaches for a day or two), and is consumed by many, many people every day without noticeable bad effects, when used in moderation.

The way to stop is to stop, take something for the headaches, and get over it, though if your teacher is having only one or two servings a day, and has no medical reason to stop, there may be no need. If the teacher is pregnant, she should consult her obstetrician, who will probably tell her to cut back or quit. If he has heart problems, his cardiologist may suggest the same.

The outrageuous amount of caffeine in energy drinks makes a cup of coffee or tea seem harmless in comparison. I can't believe you haven't heard about the various college kids who ended up at the emergency room from drinking too many of them trying to stay awake to study. Too much caffeine raises your heart rate, sometimes to a dangerous level. At the least, people experience anxiety, and at the worst, they can actually damage their hearts. Another bad thing about caffeine is it takes the calcium from your bones. A cup or two of coffee or tea per day is not going to do much, but those overloaded energy drinks might. So listen to your mom. She's right this time. Also, some of the companies that make these drinks are catching on to the problem finally and making low-caffeine or zero-caffeine versions, so look for those in stores.
