And if so "why"? and "how"? I am very upset about that because those so called "Christians" are not giving you a clear picture of what it means to be a Christian. I think the worst is the people who tell gays and lesbians that God doesn't love them. That is a total lie. God loves anyone and he wants everyone to come to him. He wants to forgive you and give you a new life.

Also can you tell me what it is that these so called " Christians" have told you? I want to know what it is that they are spewing that is turning people off.

GOD HATES HOMOSEXUALITY BUT HE DOES NOT HATE THE PEOPLE WHO DO IT. SIN IS SIN IN GOD'S EYES. ONCE YOU'VE COMMITED ONE SIN YOUR GUILTY OF THEM ALL. YES GOD HATES SIN BUT HE DOES NOT HATE THE PEOPLE WHO DO IT.

Hello dear!
Very thoughtful question and pretty well documented and supported! Bravo!
Well, Christianity was not implied by Christians but by the Roman emperors Constantine, Theodosius, Arcadious, Justinian. They implied this type of indirect government so that the emperors would controlled all their subjects easily, since they implied the fear of punishment by the all looking god of revenge and punishment! Of course, they did not stop there! By laws, if people would think, operate schools, proceed in their original Greek ceremonies, they were exterminated. millions of Greeks were executed! Thus, the Romans and Jews destroyed both the people and their creations, including libraries and books, theaters and temples, buildings and systems!
Now, the so called Christians are those low profile, non thinking individuals full of fear and hate! This is so, since their "god" is a lesser god, full of complexes, fears, ..., no bases, no philosophy, ...
Still, I advice you, if I may: enjoy every moment, it is unique! It will never return!

I'm sure that there are those Christians who are very opinionated, but think about it, everyone has an opinion! Politics, child rearing, marriage, health problems. Everyone is different, so everyone has a different idea. Even you! Is it right to classify everyone that doesn't feel the same way you do about an issue "wrong". The only one perfect here is God. It's not your decision to judge who's right and who's wrong. Just listen and if they ask, give them your thoughts. Be a little more open minded and know that sometimes others might be right. Look at Columbus. No one believed that the world was round.
If you're a true Christian, you shouldn't be judging anyone.

I'm christian and I think what your saying is true many so called Christians say that god hates gay people and that's not true god loves all his children I hate the fact that more and more Christians these days are spreading hate instead of love i knew sooner or later more people would convert to another religion because of the radical things many Christians say or do sorry you didn't get the real picture of Christianity

What do Christians say that I don't like? Here's just some of it (and I'm not saying they all say this, obviously, but a lot of them do):

1) You are going to burn in hell forever because (insert reason here).
2) Your god/religion/faith is wrong/incorrect/retarded! (That just comes across as so rude to me.)
3) Gay people are going to hell and God doesn't love them (you mentioned that example).

There are plenty others, but those are the top three.

But to answer your question, I actually turned myself away from Christianity. I just don't agree with the faith; it really has nothing to do with those people. I totally disagree with all of that obnoxious garbage that the "fundies" spout, but even if they didn't do that, I still wouldn't consider becoming a Christian. I appreciate that you don't support the kind of stuff that the bad ones say, though.

Why have Christians pushed me away from Christianity? I agree with the previous reply that most Christians are pushy in wanting everyone else to believe what they do, yet they are not willing to acknowledge anyone else's beliefs.

It is this attitude of intolerance that has galvanized the issue for me. I could never be so unaccepting toward other human beings simply because they do not believe the same thing I do, or happen to homosexual, or believe in evolution, or support abortion. Pick whichever issue you like but either way you will find Christians on the other side, preaching intolerance and hate, while claiming to be acting in the name of God.

The Bible does not call particular attention to homosexuals as a group to be ostracized or hated by Christians.

However, the Scriptures do set forth the moral standards of our Creator, which oftentimes run counter to modern-day mores. Homosexual acts, heterosexual sex between unmarried persons, and bestiality are all condemned in the Bible. (Exodus 22:19; Ephesians 5:3-5) God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of such sexual practices.—Genesis 13:13; 18:20; 19:4, 5, 24, 25.

Regarding acts of homosexuality, God’s Word pointedly says: “This is a hateful thing.” (Leviticus 18:22, The New Jerusalem Bible) God’s Law to Israel stipulated: ..... have done a detestable thing. They should be put to death without fail.” (Leviticus 20:13) The same punishment was prescribed for those committing bestiality, incest, and adultery.—Leviticus 20:10-12, 14-17.

The Scriptures offer no apologies, no concessions, no ambiguity; homosexual practices, adultery, fornication, are all repulsive in God’s sight.

One thing you are right, Christendom does promote hate, even against true Christians.

In a way...yes. There are some very smart Christians that I have met, but these are usually the more reserved Christians. Not the ones trying to impose their beliefs on you and 'save you' and so forth.

Also, it is not Christianity I am really turned against, rather organized religion.

I think being pushy about christianity also turns people agianst the religion, and to my opinion you are being slightly pushy in your endeavors. My personal experience? I have two family members that cant get along because both are christians of differing sects that believe thier sect is the only sect that will go to heaven and everyone else will burn forever. This to me sounds like a grave injustice. As a Goddess i dont believe in hell, i think destroying people that are trouble whould be much more fair and just, on the basis of i dont believe torturing people forever will solve anything.

Reason and an open eyed view of the world around me has reveled truth to me. I can not, in good faith be a member of any organized religion.

I've been married to two religious people...A Pentecostal Preacher and a Hindu Monk...both had serious sexual disorders and tried hard to suppress their sexual needs. Religious people of all faiths tend to pretend they are above the rest of us and with that belief, become below the rest of us. They manage to supress their own desires, pretending the desires they label as "BAD" don't exist and in supressing their honest thoughts and feelings, drive problems deeper. Denial kills...truth heals.

From my observations religious people can't handle the truth of their own humanity and have trouble believing in themselves. It seems the more religious a person, the more emotional disturbances they have after you really get to know them. (That's not quite fair...everyone seemst to have emotional disturbances after you get to know them. That statement wasn't really fair, was it?)

I can honestly say that religious people aren't any better than the rest of us but have a tendency to think that they are and that's the hypocracy of it. In the end, they end up being less moral than the rest of us due to years of denial, supression, hypocracy and most importantly...harsh, judgemental attitudes.

its my personal belief that a majority of christians have completly missed the point or arent even close to what jesus actually taught. a good example would be a question that i read here a few weeks ago about the amish school shooting. the amish did what jesus instructed and forgave the gun man and his family....but many so called christians on this forum said that they never would have. jesus forgive all....theres many more examples, but i dont have enough room here
