I heard that if you flush the toilet with the lid up, bits of fecal matter fly up and whiz around the bathroom, possibly even landing on your toothbrush. Is it true? If so, should we start going number 2 outside to keep our families safe?

Yes... Especially if you drop a really big load that sticks up out of the water. Another problem is when you have explosive diarrhea. Poo can ricochet off of the bowl or water and spray all over the walls and ceiling. Not to mention the aerosolized poo that drifts through the air and is later inhaled by the next occupant. People with contagious diseases should be forced to defecate in negative pressure rooms in order to protect the more virtuous among us.

It depends, like if you have a nasty bathroom, hey! You're already at the hazardous point! But if you are a cleaning freak then i dont think it would be hazardous--- If you really think it does, put the lid down when you flush!!

Yeah it's true. But if you close the lid before you flush you have no problems. Enjoy!
