I just made a appt. for one of the cats if one tests positive for worms then the other one most likely will too. It was only 75.00 for the exam and the fecal. Hopefully it will be negative poor kitties:(

IAMS for kittens is a great food. They will get balanced nutrition and also their poop won't stink as much.
If they are over 8 weeks old you would want to worm them too. Worms can make pets skinny.
Get them spayed and neutered immediately and help prevent unwanted pregnancies, or abandoned and unadoptable kittens.

Worming the kittens should help their overall health immensely and they will put on weight quite quickly on a good steady diet which they have probably not had for at least a month. Since they are weaned you should not give them milk. Cow's milk can give them problems intestinally and doesn't do much for them nutritionally.
You certainly have to make decisions about what you will feed them. Do NOT give them raw hamburger from your supermarket. Beef is the least likely meat for them to benefit from and the danger of ground meat from a large supplier is very high. I feed my cats a raw meat diet - you cannot just give them ground meat without any bone as that throws the calcium/phorphous balance out of whack. Lack of calcium can seriously damage their bone development. If indeed the ground meat benefited the farm kittens it was because they were also most likely eating mice and getting the necessary calcium from the mouse's bones.
If you want to do a raw diet for the kittens go to: www.catinfo.org for the right information on how to do it.
Commercial cat foods, canned and dry that are of the highest quality: Wellness, Eagle Pack, Solid Gold, Nature's Variety, Felidae, Natural Balance etc. These will not be in your grocery store or the dear vet's office (Science Diet - a really crappy food).
Some of the high quality foods I have mentioned are more expensive than others. Solid Gold and Natural Balance are less expensive than Science Diet.

First you should go to a vet and do a stool analysis for your kittens to see if they have intestinal parasites (worms). This should not be a costly procedure. Second ask your vet for a vitamin supplement and third you can buy a food called
Hills prescription diet AD.This food is very rich and is meant for cats that are weaning, malnourished ext.. This food isnt very expensive either. I am presently working as an assistant vet so you can trust this info. Best of luck with you kitties

Try alot of warm milk and kitten food, if they are under the age of one. Then you may have to feed them 3 to 4 times a day. Then as they put on the weight, then you drop there feeding to 2 times a day thats all. But as kittens you have to feed them as much more. Make sure the milk is warm and always at there need.

If you look at the nutrition facts on the back of the catfood bag, make sure you pick the one with the highest protein content. Because they are growing, the protein will help their muscles grow which ultimately will make them bigger. I wouldn't be concerned with just fattening them up. Their health needs to be brought into consideration and growing kitties need protein to do this. The hamburger idea above falls in line with this but raw hamburger can severely affect their dental health and poses the possibility of giving them worms.

Any time you adopt an animal, regardless of age, you should take it to the vet for a check-up. Your vet will also be the best to recommend what and how to feed them if he/she thinks they're underweight once other issues are either ruled out or treated.
A good quality kitten food is a great choice until you can get them in. (I use Iams for my cats.) Don't go nuts giving them milk, cats tend to be lactose intolerant and cow's milk will upset their stomachs. If you want to supplement milk in their diet, your vet can give you kitten formula if he/she thinks it would be appropriate for their gaining weight.

We were 'adopted' by a stray kitten and he was such a pathetic thin kitty. We gave him lots of milk and be sure to keep the kitten food out for them at all times. He is now a nice big cat and very healthy.

You should probably take them to the vet and have them checked over, they could have worms. It's a good idea to have them cheked out anyway for their own good and yours; you don't know exactly what they've been through and there could be something that needs medical attention making them so thin.

Give them really good kitten food, NOT HAMBURGERS !!! Take them to the vet, they may have worms which prevents them from getting food/nutrition.
