they look for a "nesting" place to have their kittens. Do you have a box prepared for her at home. Also...why the heck is your pregnant cat roaming around anyway, she could have her kittens out there and you will never know where they are and they will be stray feral cats. Also, why did you not spay your cat BEFORE she got pregnant. Be a responsible pet owner and get her spayed after the kittens are weaned.

The same thing happened to my cat. She was pregnant and didn't come back for two weeks. It scared me to death. sometimes cats like to have their babies in private. they don't like it when you help them with pregnancy.

Because she may have had her babies or was looking for a place to have them. Someone may have picked her up as a stray. She could have gotten locked inside somewhere and couldn't get out.
