my friend's dad died and he told me to do all the minor stuff cause he has a headache every day. I am thinking off My immortal or maybe Chi Mai by Morricone. Any other suggestions?

I dont know a lot about his dad. At any other moment I would tell him to do it himself but I dont think its the right thing to do. Chi Mai was pretty popular back in his house I always heard them playing it but I dont know if its right to remind someone of what they did while they lived.

I like My Immortal.
It would be easier to suggest appropriate songs (unless you're wanting us to choose just one or the other) without knowing anything about the man.
You don't even have to have a typical "funeral song". When my great-grandmother passed away, I sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow (we shared a love of The Wizard of Oz.) When my step-sister passed away, for some reason I still don't know, "At Last My Love Has Come Along" was played (we've speculated that she probably wanted to have that as a wedding song when she ever got married)
Tears in Heaven (Eric Clapton), The Dance (Garth Brooks), "Love, Me" (Collin Raye)are all relatively popular songs for funerals, too.
My condolances to you and to your friend.

I have asked my son to have played at my funeral an old Trooper song called "Where Here For A Good Time Not A Long Time". Trooper is an old Canadian rock and party band and I just figured that it would help put the attendees at ease and hopefully help put a smile on their face realizing that I kept my sense of humour right up to the end. Besides I want people to celebrate my life not mourn my passing so why play some sad or melancholy song?

I think for his father you might pick someone for an older generation. Vince Gill has a song that is used a lot for funerals. It's called, "Go Rest High on that Mountain."

Well, Ave Maria and Amazing Grace will surprise no one. They are old standards at funerals.
If you're going to have either sung, find a decent soprano - don't do it yourself
