Strike up a coversation with him. Tell him how nice he is. Tell him how handsome he is. Bat your eyelashes a little. Be sure to giggle and laugh at all his jokes, especially if they are not funny. Then mention how bored you will be (say, perhaps Friday night) because you don't have a boyfreind, and therefore have nothing to do but sit at home. If you do all this, and he still is too shy or too stupid to get the point, tell him that you wish you had a boyfreind who was as nice, handsome, etc, as him to ask you on a date.

You should tell him that you don't and see what he does. Maybe he was going to ask you out and wanted to know if you had a bf.
I ask a girl the same question before asking her out, to be sure the route is clear.

just go and talk with him and wait for him to ask unless you see it really easy and certain he'll react ok if you ask, some guys seem to react the wrong way
