parakeets?

what size should the cage be for about 2? also how many parakeets can be in the same cage?? when they mate do they have to be the ssame colour? or can they be different colours??

You need something large enough for the two to have flying room. As for breeding, they do not need to be the same color, but make sure that they have a nesting box to go into. Your best bet would be to go to a pet store or Walmart and buy a book on the subject.

In the wild, budgies are colony nesters, meaning that groups of birds will nest very close together, each having their own private place. They do not build a nest by bringing material to it, instead choosing to hollow out a small area & lay eggs directly onto a hard surface. This nest could be in a hole in a tree – or in a crevice of a rock (or under the rock) or even in a hole in the ground.

Due to the fact that budgies are colony breeders, the results of breeding them may be better if you have more than one pair, so they can all see each other. This can be done with cages being near each other, or by putting the nest boxes up into the flight where they are normally kept. I used to keep my birds in a large flight cage and just take out 3 pairs at a time to put into a smaller flight, with 4 nest boxes hung. They would have plenty of room to fly and each pair would have a choice of nest box.

two parakeets can go in a medium size cage,,right now i have 4 parakeets in one cage and they get along fine. parakeets will not mate with a parakeet of a different color than themselves.

For two they should be in a tall 3x6ft ish cage. They dont have to be the same color at all. You could keep hundreds in a large aviary, they tend to like crowds :)
