she went into the hospitol with bruised and swollen feet. the doctors at first (of course) thought she was abused. but tested for allergies, diabetes and other things. on day 2 they rulled out abuse because while in their care her arms and legs began to swell and bruise and now on day 3 her neck and face. they ruled out allergies and diabetes.
they thought it could be HSP...but have ruled that out as well. she seems to be in so much pain and they keep taking blood (which hurts her) and taking different test after different test. they can not find anything wrong. except that she is bruising and swelling in front of their eyes.
please if you have heard or seen anything like this before explain.
her circulation seems fine.....it's a mystery right now.
leaving the family feeling very helpless.
she has a twin brother who is healthy. he can not go to the hospitol to be with her due to it being rsv season. both babies obviously miss the other.
please help.

Oh I'm so sorry. I've never heard of this before, but there is a God that can reach down out of heaven and restore your little one. Just pray and ask God for the answer and for healing.

Small vessel vasculitis presents with pretty much the same symptoms you have mentioned. There could be any number of causes. (i.e.rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematous, anaphylactic reactions to foods, etc., etc., etc... )You didn't mention whether or not there might be signs of petychiae present on her skin, or if there was any hemo in her urine or stool. One particularly rare condition is called HS Purpura. Henoch-Schonlein Purpura. My neice had when she was two years old. She swelled up, there was some bruising, petychiae on her wrists and ankles, blood in her urine and stool, symptoms of severe gastroenteritis, and profuse vomiting...her fever was low grade...it was touch and go for a few days, but she made it. The doctors never could tell us what she might be allergic to, but it could have been shellfish, or something she was exposed to. We lived near the Chemical plants at that time...and they were always releasing stuff they weren't supposed to be releasing accidentally. She was treated symptomatically, and she made it. My prayers are with you and your niece, sweetie. God Bless You.

I wonder if she has a problem with her kidneys? An infection in the kidneys can cause swelling in other parts of the body. She's probably bruising from the hospital poking and prodding her with needles, the poor thing. They need to give her a CAT scan and test her urine to rule out the kidneys.

She may be having a defect in the blood clotting pathway, may be protein C or protein S deficiency. These signs and symptoms can also occur in septicemia (blood poisoning). I hope she recovers.
