Like a library.
Kids will be able to check out hamsters, mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, assorted reptiles and birds, try them for 2 weeks and return them before they become a hassel to parents.
Not dogs or cats of course, but the caged pets kids beg for then lose interest in.
Parents will buy a "library card" to cover them not bringing the pet back. That fee will be refundable when they return the pet. There will also be free pick up service.
Then there will be a smaller charge for each pet they borrow.
I will include care sheets and everyone will sign waivers for when the animals bite the kids or damage anything.
What do you think?
What would you pay? For the "card" and the rental?

If a parent thinks it will be a hassle, the parent has no business having any animal at all.

Animals aren't freaking commodities- you speak of them as if you're trying out some furniture for your house! It's an inhumane and unethical idea. Animals need a solid, loving and safe environment, being tossed around to different families, growing a bond with a child then being taken away will cause extreme behavioral problems with that animal and possibly the child. It's an all around horrifying idea, in so many ways.

It's a very bad idea. You never know what kind of people would be renting the pets or if they would be treated right. And too many people already have the idea in their heads that pets are dispensable. Pets need a loving, stable home. Being taken back and forth, from home to home and your "library" would stress them. Plus you never know what kinds of diseases or parasites they would be exposed to. I'm sorry for not liking your idea.

Well... when I was in elementary school we had something similar... not quite the same though... our teachers would always have a pet hamster and every week a different child was chosen (granted that the parents would allow it..) to take the hamster home, take care of it, then return it when their week is up.

I don't think it is a great idea. 1st off. Kids need to learn responsibility and having an animal for 2 weeks is not teaching them that. 2nd, you can never guarantee that an animal will not bite. 3rd, you will be hurting the pet trade.

Don't do it!

not a good idea. pets are not the same as books. and this could be harmful to both the pet and the child. also i dont think many parents would like it either and your pet library wouldnt get much business.

No! Pets need stable environments and homes, just like humans. Thumbs down! Horrible idea.

I would be worried about the little kids getting attatched and wanting to keep them forever.... I am 23 and that is exactly what I would do.
