To some kids, Santa Claus IS Christmas, but they should be taught or made to understand that he is a fantasy just as the Easter Bunny is a fantasy.
Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ. Hence the term "Christmas".
Our Jewish friends don't believe in Christmas, yet a lot of their children are given gifts from Santa Claus. If you don't believe in something, it's not right to celebrate it, regardless of what some kids do or don't do.
