my experience when I was a child was that I did not understand why benevolent Santa gave the rich kids the best toys and the most stuff while the poor kids had to settle for a pair of socks.
What on earth does Santa have to do with Jesus? does not make sense-
in teaching my children-I am teaching them about a God that I know is real yet He cannot be seen with our eyes. I also want my word to mean something to them- I choose not lie to my children, even something that sounds innocent for the sake of tradition.
I see tons and tons of pictures of screaming , unhappy children sitting on the mall Santa's lap- when else would it be appropriate to force our babies to sit on the lap of a complete stranger, one that we don't even know if he is a child molesting pervert or whatever. It is a sick ritual for the sake of having that picture of our kid with Santa- never mind the child is terrified- when else would we do that to a child??
I just think that Santa is an overrated and ridiculous lie and I think it is a terrible injustice to our children and an insult to their intelligence to perpetuate this silliness.

There are so many traditions and holidays that are completely bogus and have nothing to do with the idea of the religion. They were created or adapted by Man to fit a certain belief structure. Some examples are decorating trees at Christmas and hiding Easter eggs. These were traditions completely unrelated to the Christian faith as it was first envisioned, but in order to convert people to Christianity, as a faith it had to adopt the traditions native to the surrounding people's religions, to "soften the blow" of converting, so to speak. The hierarchy in the Catholic church is another big one. The order of Pope to Cardinal and on down is completely a product of Man's need for structure, and it creates a hunger for power and prestige among the most devout men of the Church, something completely contradictory to the doctrine of the Christian faith. Jesus himself would most likely call them hypocrites

Well, from what I know of Santa (we worked to gether to take christmas away from the radical right) - he thinks people need to get over worrying about what Jesus thinks...
Santa hooked up with Jesus once; it was a brief but torrid affair; they had to split up because Jesus' followers wanted to molest kids - and Santa just wanted to give kids gifts. Santa told Jesus that unless he did something to remedy the problem they'd have to split up. Jesus never did anything about it - so they split up.
Jesus apparently blames his followers for the crappy state of the US today - he told Santa he absolutely was not coming back because he didn't want all of those radical right wingers coming to heaven and molesting the angels and cherubs.

Deception is wrong. It is as bad as the father (I use the term in a general procreative sense) who places his three year old on a counter, tells his child "jump, I'll catch you!" Then steps back as the child hits the floor crying, saying, "That'll teach ya, kid! Don't trust anyone!"
The more honest we are with our children, answering their questions with answers that they will understand at their maturity level, the more intelligent they become and able to discern truth from falsehood.

Santa is too busy for you kid.
When you quit sucking your thumb, get off the bottle and come from hiding under the bed--perhaps then little boy-perhaps then.
