They serve shrimp and lobster. Eating shrimp and lobster is a sin; a downright abomination! - along the same lines of homosexuality according to the bible. Leviticus 11:9-12 clearly states:
"whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them ye shall eat.
And all that have not fins and scales in the seas... they shall be an abomination unto you.
They shall be even an abomination unto you; Ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination"
Is this another fine example of pick-and-choose bible-based morality?

By the way christians, the old testament is where you get the whole "homosexuality is an abomination" thing... so pick your words carefully. Otherwise, you'll soon be trying to tell me that Jesus was in the Gay and Lesbian Rights Parade in NYC last year...

You stopped short.

If you read the complete situation, you will find out that while God's people were not to eat these, they were permitted to SELL them to the heathens. Nowhere does it say that God's people were to have homosexual relations with the heathens. And God did not permit homosexual relations even among the heathens, so He destroyed Sodom (from which the modern term "sodomy" = homosexuality, comes).

Why are you trying to defend homosexuality using the Bible? Listen, if YOU want to practise that type of lifestyle, that's your right but understand that both the New and Old Testaments categorically condemns such a practice.

And for your information, there are SOME Christians who follow the Biblical dietary laws FROM A MODERN SCIENTIFIC POINT-OF-VIEW. Would such a Christian stop you from eating lobsters? No, but they will definitely stop you from feeding lobsters to their children. Do you insist that you have a right to feed their children lobsters? Just like how you want to teach homosexuality and evolution to my children?

The problem with questions and statements like these is that parts are picked from the Bible and presented as total concepts. Every part of the Bible relates to every other part of the Bible and it all needs to be tied together to develop an argument or case.

The way this point is being presented it only serves to strengthen the case of the Christian that non-believers do not take the time to know what they are talking about. Please help us by taking the time (and it really does take time) to understand what you are presenting....you make it very difficult on those of us trying to educate and accomplish something on here.

If you already know that it's an abomination, and you decide to eat shell-fish and pork, then it's your decision. You know the consequences for doing so, nobody else can think for you. I personally stay away from shell-fish, catfish, pork....and a lot of other unclean animals. But that's my decision.

And to all of the people who stay away from the old testament and only follow the new testament. OLD or NEW..it's all God's words, why would you discontinue any of His teachings. You should follow both the OLD and NEW testaments.

You are the one picking and choosing from Scripture. The New Testament clearly tells us that Jesus' death has freed us from the burden of keeping the Law. Paul clearly lays out that we are free to eat outside the boundaries of the dietary restrictions of the Old Testament. It's so silly that you have chosen this one thing to pin your resentment and hostility on. Read the Bible--the whole thing. Right now you're just spitting into the wind--you're the only one getting wet.

Please understand this. Leviticus was written by Moses. The Mosaic Law was given tho the people back in that time to protect them from the harm that they could suffer in the desert and to keep them faithful to their God. Shrimp were considered bottom feeders and contained all the filth and contaminants in the sea. Pork could give Trichinosis if eaten because they had no refrigeration of any kind and people got sick and died from it. Those laws are no longer valid because today we have modern science and refrigeration to keep us from getting sick. They didn't even have penicillin back then. Remember, also that Jesus ate fish in the gospels and he multiplied the loaves and the fishes for the multitude to eat. God had to give those laws to Moses because Moses was responsible for the lives of God's people. But now the need for it has changed, and it is not a Moral Precept which of course is not changeable.

We as Christians are not expected to follow all of the Mosaic Laws. Jesus, Himself said that He came to abolish the law, and went on to mention that it is no longer wrong to eat certain foods.
This was because even in Jesus' time the people did not suffer same hardships and circumstances that Moses' people did always traveling through the desert, and it was no longer harmful to do certain things.

But Jesus was making a much more important point when he said that about abolishing some of the laws. He was saying that what you eat is NOT as important as God's messages of love and keeping God in your heart. Jesus admonished the Pharisees for being so hard of heart because it was more important to them to wear tassels and eat and drink only in a certain way and do certain rituals than to have love and compassion for their fellow man. When the Pharisees challenged Jesus because He said that a man can have only one wife and cannot be divorced,(Because under Mosaic Law it was alright to get a divorce) and Jesus said to them that Moses Had to make that law because of the"Harness of your hearts".

So you see, We cannot only focus on the Old Testament to figure out Christianity. Listen to Jesus in the New Testament and learn from His teachings. Use the Old Testament as an historical guide to the Bible as a whole, and learn from it about God's faithfulness to His chosen people and how whenever they called on Him he protected and preserved them. And it is important to understand that after God sent the promised Messiah(Jesus), He made a New Covenant with His people ( a covenant of His Love), which replaced the Old Covenant and many of its laws.

In the New Testament book of Acts Peter has a dream about unclean animals coming to him and the Lord telling him to eat. Peter appalled questions the Lord and the Lord tells Him that since Christ was the final sacrifice there is nothing unclean
You probably should read your old and new testaments since they go together as a set.

Acts 10 9About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."
14"Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean."

15The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean."

16This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

17While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon's house was and stopped at the gate. 18They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.

19While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them."

Not for Christians, only Orthodox Jews..
What part of NEW don't you understand about the New Testament. Get over it, the Old is over and we live in the New.
Since you have named yourself after someone that was a little slow from the beginning, it is no wonder that you don't get it. Satan never had a clue until the resurrection of Christ, and then he knew that he was a defeated foe and would never win. He sticks around because he isn't smart enough to repent and bow his knee to Christ.

if we were to re-write the bible today
we wouldn't eat lettuce..spinich...beef..water (unless you boiled it)
that was then (no pork) this is now....we know what we can and can't eat...the only difference is when it was bad back then (pork with worms) they wrote it in the bible/qu'ran today we hear it on t.v. and wait till the threat is gone , and start eating it again (beef)
the good books are like the Sunday paper of today..."this to shall pass" what was bad then is good now. what was bad then (certain laws) are bad now.If you follow the books word for word you aren't doing yourself or your family any good.

Jews don't picket the swine growers from the hills of Judea either. Personal preference and obedience, nor are we to judge those who march to a different drummer.
