It IS possible that you ate something that is affecting your stool color, or if you took anything for your upset stomach (like pepto bismal or antiacids, they can make your stool VERY DARK) however, it is best that you go to the doctor. It will just get worse for you though because if you thought asking that question was gross, wait until you have to do a stool sample...it gives new meaning to poop and scoop!

Really though, you shouldn't ignore that. If it is still an issue all day, get to the doctor.

You didn't say if it was hard or loose.

Do you take an iron supplement? That can cause a black stool.
I also know that blood can cause it to turn black.

If you haven't recently taken or eaten something new, or you really feel sick more than just the upset stomach last night, I would urge you to see a Dr., maybe even go to the ER.

If you have done something new with your medications or eaten a new food, then maybe wait a day & see if it passes (no pun intended).

If you have been ill, you could have just been expelling some infection, and that was what was causing the upset stomach last night.

I'm not a Dr. just speaking from personal experience.

Go to the hospital immediately! Black stool often means there is blood. You could have a bleeding ulcer or other issue. Is the odor REALLY abnormal? That is a surefire sign. A Gastro intestinal bleed is very serious and needs immediate attention. People have died from this and the way they check for it is a hemacult test using stool. Again, black stool is a strong indication of a possible GI bleed. I forgot one thing....if you used pepto bismal for your upset stomache...it too will turn your stool black. Sometimes will darken your tongue as well. Sorry for the scare if in fact taking peptobismal is in fact what you have done.

Bleeding ulcers! Antibiotics are now used to treat them. See your doctor for a check up!

Black, tarry stool is a sure sign of ulcers. Or it could be something more serious, so you really need to see your doctor by Monday. If you have a walk-in clinic near your home, check in there today or Sunday.

No, this doesn't sound normal. The black you speak of could be digested blood, or it could be contents in the intestines for a while. Consult a doctor.

I've had the same problem and my doctor once told me that it was because I hadn't got enough fiber and that stress could have been the cause also. If it continues I'd go to the doctor or you could ask a nurse at your local hospital. :)

Black stools suggest you are bleeding in the upper digestive tract which is not good.
Iron supplements can make your poo black so if you are on these don't worry, otherwise get it checked.

True about blood...
Keep in mind if you took "Pepto" or another over the counter aid, you may also see your stool color change.
Get well soon!
