i have a good friend that is LDS. she had invited me to her church so i went. i am a christian and have been for several years. i also have piercings and tattoos. when the other members of the LDS church saw my tatto of the "jesus fish" on my forearms and the tatto of a cross made of nails with the ohrase "jesus freak" around it they looked at me with disgust. i was not welcomed because of my tattoos. but god accepts EVERYONE no matter what they look like or what they have done. why do mormons say they accept all but did not seem to accept me?

Just count yourself lucky that you saw how they are before you got in too deep! Or at least I hope you see it.

Sorry. You just ran into very conservative Mormons. As a rule Mormons don't have tattoos. However, some of my friends over the years who are Christian and Mormon have tattoos, piercings, mohawk hairdos, and different colored hair. It's not as many as when I lived in Arizona and California, but again, some areas are more conservative than others. You would probably like going to church in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which is pretty much come-as-you-are. By the way, the answerer who said something about many wives is inaccurate. The Lord's standard is 1 woman and 1 man, and those who are still trying to live polygamy are absolutely NOT part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

Let me apologize for these people who have treated you so wrongly. I am LDS and I feel very sad that people of my faith would treat you that way. God does accept everyone for who they are. I believe this church to the be the church of Christ here on the earth. The church and the gospel of this church are pure and true. But sadly, this doesn't mean that all the people who belong to this religion are perfect. We are taught not to be judgemental, but just like everyone else, we have faults. Jesus was the only perfect person to walk on this earth. Please don't let these narrow-minded people influence you against the gospel. Give the church a try, not the people. I hope you find the happiness and joy in your search as I have found. Good luck!

My bet would be if you went into any church no matter what religion with the tattoos some people would not accept you.
Try a lot of churches and see if you get the same reaction.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I am a Mormon and we are taught to love everybody. Just like everybody else on the planet Mormons are not perfect. They should accept you but not everybody does what they should. I think if you get to know the members better that you will learn that they are nice people. Also, please don't assume that everybody at the church was judging you because you may have received a few dirty looks. I hope you will come again and will have a better experience.

You are welcome. But, you also have to consider we are taught that our bodies are temples and to take care of them...tatoos and multiple piercings are often looked down on...sorry. That does not mean you cannot go to church. I know several active Mormons that got tatoos before they were members and they just cover them out of respect when they attend church and even the temple.
The people may have been wondering what you were doing there or why you didn't cover them up...you have to remember we are people too. If you went to a tatoo parlor and someone came in looking totally ready for church wouldn't you think that a bit odd???
Try going again...

You are completely right, God accepts you for who you are and the Mormons should too.

Mormons believe that our bodies are gifts from God and that they are sacred and we should treat them with respect, and they discourage tatoos and multiple earrings.

You probably stood out compared to everyone else because of your tatoos. That is no excuse though, because they should have treated you better. Forgive them, no Mormons are perfect. I hope you will go back.

perhaps you might have gone to this Church the first time with the tattoos covered as first impressions are important on both sides.

Maybe they shunned you for all the stories you invent.

Did you try giving them a tenth of your pay check? (It works at that trendy restaurant down in the city, why should religion be any different) Its not enough to be devout, ya gotta grease some palms too.
