It depends on how you define success. If success is being a great stay-at-home mom, then do it. If it is being a powerful deal broker, go for it. Some people make assumptions that success=money. For me, I had wanted to be a teacher since I was a young man. I went to school, worked hard, and achieved my goal. Do I make a lot of money? No. But I identified a goal, achieved it, and now work at a job that I love. That, to me, is success. That success is important to me because it makes me happy.

Everyone has a different definition of "success". People need something to strive for and the feeling of accomplishment. It's human nature I guess.

Evolution - because being "top of the heap" in anything is like being the leader of the herd / pack and therefore most likely to sought out as a breeding partner - succesful animals are seen as being better providers and so more desirable as partners

It doesn't matter how much you wrap the answers up in cotton wool - the answer will alwyas come back to money, money,money.
Whatever kind of sucess we are talking about here, inthe end it will bring money (maybe not happiness) but money for sure.
