I'd like to know, in your own words, if you are getting anything positive out of this forum, and if so, what would it be?
The same question applies to the negative aspects.
Elaborate if you will please. Thank you.

Dangerous Danny....I have found that if I don't include *see details* many people will skip right over them, and answer in a way that has nothing to do with the question. So I do it for their benefit, lol.

I enjoy scanning this forum.. I have changed the way I search for questions and I accept full responsibility for the type of questions I find.
there are better Qs and answers now than last summer when the punks were at their profane worst. EDNA was awful.
When I read an answer I like I check that persons page and Q+As usually there are a few to vote on and one or two to answer if I feel like it.
I am not out to get 800 points a week or anything. I just like the variety in the reading. You can get a feel for what the person is like based on what they reveal in their words.
I have had a few people come to my pittiful 360 page and leave comments. I hope to make a few cyber penpal type friends or just to read silly and sassy stuff.

Considering the good and the bad.................
It is a different form of communication. People tend to say what they want rather than what they mean.
Most of the questions I just pass over due to immaturity or just plain nonsense.
On the good side it is informative to read opinions such as yours.
On the bad side some postings can get hateful, deceitful and have a lot of derogatory language.
A good forum can see past the bigotry and really explain a person's view,
The WSIDR is a classic. The humour just seems to step out and grab you for a second.
Expectation, getting anything positive, oh, well I think I am still out on that one however I have not given up hope.
There are a lot of profound people out there that once and a while show some real exceptional insight.
There are just as many that do the opposite. Too bad.
Have a good one.

I came here to get some insight on what others believe, and to answer questions, if I could. I was stunned to see how close minded some people are. As well as judgmental. I had no idea that people took the Bible so literally, and I was raised a Christian in the Baptist church and Congregational church. As well as being a Mormon until I had a flash of sanity. I'm learning tolerance, and believe me, it has been hard. I have learned a lot of things here, and I think that most of this has been a positive experience, or I wouldn't keep coming back. I always wanted to teach, and if I can answer a question in a way that will make a person think or learn something, that makes me feel good. I also pose questions to make people think. I just wish that more people thought for themselves instead of being spoonfed everything they know and believe in.

umm....this is a good question so I will try to elaborate a little. I save my long answers for mornings when I'm fresh and alert.
I think the most positive I have gained is understanding and respecting the great diversity of people on this forum. Our worlds are so small that sometimes in order to get a larger picture of people you have to have a larger view. This forum is that larger view. You see all types of people with all types of solutions to their life and life in general.
The negative would be the anger on both sides and everyone claiming to be the victim. Of all the good things said it is often the bad things written that is remember. One bad apple on any issue and another bad apple reacts and fuels everyone to this mind set. Go figure.......people are so funny sometimes.....

one of the reasons I come here is that others like yourself help me to grow by helping me answer my own questions about myself. Each of us has blind spots caused most likely by our past, disappointments, traumas, lapses in judgement etc. Others can blunder into my areas and if I am honest with myself when answering then I can undo previous damage. EX: my Dad though he was overall a good person and loved us was someone who was cheap (had to fight for that quarter for doing dishes a whole week) and could not always be trusted (cheated on my Mom and got me involved).
Some one asked me a question which showed me I was lacking in the trust area in my relationship with God and there by stopping some blessings. Still working on this but it was a problem I had avoided. I think another reason I am here is to help others with similar blind spots that stop them from receiving blessings that I may already have or just blessings set out on a table especially for them by God but they may not eat because of some blockage in their life perhaps caused by their dad who may have done much worse things than my Dad did. So I have an opportunity to help others and receive help from others. I also get the opportunity to get angry as well as the opportunity to love others and set an example that all men are not monsters. Some will take time say edifting things and spread the love.

First and foremost, I have met some really awesome people. I have asked sincere questions and received some sincere answers. Actually, my participation in this section was an epiphany for me. I could finally put aside the rest of the religious bs that remained in my psyche. I made no major changes in my beliefs, but now I know that I am not alone.
The negative is that I don't seem to be getting through to the ones that truly need some enlightenment. The gay being a choice issue, just infuriates me. The pro-life rants that want to force their beliefs on the world inspire me to fight even harder.
You are so special and I admire you so much.

I have learned a lot from this forum. Many people are different and have different beliefs and opinions, I learned to respect and appreciate those beliefs without having to change my own. I also learned a few things from very knowledgeable people. Negatively speaking I think I found out a few things about myself, many times I am quick to judge and I have criticized many religious people without really taking into consideration why they would think a certain way. I have made generalizations and insulted, but I Have regretted most of them.
P.S. You don't have to write "see details" after every question most people already know that. ;-)

Positive - I have come in contact many people that I would not have communicated with otherwise.
Negative - I have allowed some of my own ugliness to seep out at times, and have felt embarrassed by it. Perhaps that's a positive too, if I can learn from it.
Edit - I see Dangerious Danny and I have had the same experience.

I was very naive when I first came to this site. I hoped to learn about other religions and share about my own. This has actually only happened a few times.
I have since found little tolerance and respect amongst yahooers much less religions. When I ask questions of other religions I get fellow Christians telling me to repent, Atheists telling me I'm nuts, and the religions I ask the questions of rarely answer.
I mostly answer questions in lighter topics anymore, sometimes honestly sometimes jokingly.

I find it fascinating to read the questions and most of the answers. You get a good idea of what people are like....some are smart, some are rude, some are funny and some try to get things started. It's interesting...that's all.I like to hear other peoples views on the world and especially the religion/spirituality. I try not to get caught up on this forum though. It can get pretty ugly.
