Religion couses so much controversy and unhappiness to people! it may also couse happiness but in general it doesn't. Surely we would live in better harmony if we were a religion-free world.

This world would be much worse off without religion. If you knew the half of what the Catholic Church has done for humanity over the past two thousand years, you would not say that. The late Pope John Paul II is credited with the fall of the Berlin Wall--which represented Communism in the East. Think before you speak.

Without religion you are left with politics. Surely the world would be a better place if people were free to say, believe, act and love to their will.

Religion teaches morals - As a Primary School teacher I know how important it is to teach religions in schools as many parents do not have time to discuss what is right and wrong.

Religion was part of the Piscean Age which has now ended. This is the Age of Aquarius, where knowledge replaces belief, and every human being can see and know God for themselves.

Some of the religions have been commandeered by Darkness, and are powerhouses of hatred, and division, amongst humanity. As the old saying goes "By their fruits you shall know them" Where the fruit is poison then so is the tree.

When we know the Father within directly without the middle man of religion, then we can all know that we are sons and daughters of the golden fire, and all can live where the Kingdom of God has come to Earth. Adam and Eve return to the sacred grove.

If religion "generally" doesn't bring you happiness, it's because you don't know Jesus. What causes controversy and unhappiness is when people don't follow those 10 simple rules that God set down for us. We Christians call them The Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments never told anybody to kill in the name of God. Maybe some non-Christian religious beliefs lead their followers to kill in the name of their "supreme power", but God wants His people to live in peace, not in controversy and unhappiness. God loves you, by the way, and he left a message for you. It's in the Holy Bible.

If religion is spirituality hijacked for political ends then I agree, we don't need it any more.
Historically, religions have been useful as driving forces towards stability and "civilisation" (killing and torturing many millions of people along the way). But I cannot see how they benefit at present.
Having said the above, it is interesting that Buddism is the fastest growing religion in the US.
While Buddism also seems to prostitute it's spiritual roots, it does seem to hold closer to them at the same time, and to be less harmful than most other of the major religions.

Yes. It was religion that destroyed the World Trade Center. It's religion that's tearing the Middle East into bloody shreds.

I could list other reasons; but I think these two provide sufficient cause for abandoning religion like the bad idea it always was.

If you want a few more, here's a source (one of many):

I am certain it would be a more harmonious world, but it would be impossible to implement.
Like prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s, "speakeasies" of underground religion would pop up everywhere and there would be even more problems.
Just today, British Airways banned an employee from wearing a crucifix and all hell broke loose!!!

You are talking about your own personal religion. If you had God's Holy Spirit and believed in the One True Religion which is Christianity you wouldn't be unhappy. The world has its own religion and you can see where that gets the world. Believing in God who is Jesus and being baptized in God's Holy Spirit is True Religion.
