I have a one year old white german shepherd who is very docile and sweet, and we're getting another dog in a few months. What kinds of dogs get along well with other dogs? It doesn't matter if the breed is small or large.

You can get almost any breed you want except for breeds that are known to be dog aggressive (most terriers, rottweilers, dobies, pit bulls) and even with them, they're individuals and some are fine with other dogs, especially if raised with them as young puppies. I would stay away from really small dogs just because of the size difference - a tiny dog could get hurt too easily just when they're playing. A dog closer to your shepherd in size would be more of a companion for him as far as being able to take the same length walks and just rough housing in the yard.

If you plan on getting a puppy, 8-12 weeks, you should have no problem at all. With proper socialization to your existing dog the new pup wil look up to your Shepherd as a big brother/sister and they will be the best of friends. The pup will also learn things like potty training from your older dog. If you plan on an older dog from the pound, then I would suggest really finding out the history of the dog and have no doubt on your mind before you take it home.

It depends what kind of breed it is. And yes it does matter the size, small dogs tend to think they are tuff and mighty but my german shepard is scared of my mini schnauzer. The schnauzer (Cody) taunts Shep(The GS) it is horible, but soon or a later your docile dog is going to attack the poor small dog and possible kill it. Belive me they were running around barking bloody murder and going to rip eachothers heads off, I would rethink the 2nd dog thing unless you can seperate them.

Labrador Retreiver. They are a very social breed and are great with kids and other dogs. I have a dog that we got off the street and he isn't well socialized but he and the lab got along great. I would reccomend a lab. :)

my gsd gets on with all dogs, so as long as yours is fairly relaxed you would be fine with most from your gsd point of view just check the other breed as iv also got a border collie and he can get a bit nervous when she is being a typical noisy gsd and playing too rough for him.

I'm sure your dog would get along well with a 'hot dog.' They are very popular.
