I need some carpeting ideas for stairwell.?

We have cherry wood floors upstairs, green berber carpet going down to traditional decore in basement. We want a change on the stairs. Any lively ideas?

individual carpet pieces to replace those that wear easier.. and see more of the beautiful wood.
or a commercial type carpet. some are very luxurious but will last longer. as they are for high traffic

you could use a oriental runner down the middle of the stairs.

you could waterfall carpet down the stairs.

you could tuck up under the nose .

if the stairs are also finished is would use the runner to accent the stairs.

Rip up any carpet and paint or stain the stairs. If you feel really brave then paint every other step an alternating color
