Is it considered harming your body to get your ears pierced? Does it say this anywhere in the Bible?

I'mnot consulting the Bible before getting my ears pierced. I've got my first hole when I was like 6 months, and I got my second hole when I was 8. I am Christian so I will take what the Bible says to heart. I was just wondering if piercing myself was considered harm. Thanks for the answers my fellow Christians.

I've come to a conclusion. I will have only my ears pierced like I already do. I will not pierce any other part of my body (wasn't planning on it though).

These verses deal specifically with sexual immorality, but I think the point can also be taken not to mark up or harm your body in any way.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Addition: Is getting pierced harming yourself? Yes, obviously.

The Bible doesn't say that you cannot have your ears pierced or that you cannot get a tattoo. Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom. I had my eyebrow pierced a few years ago but then later decided that while it wasn't harmful it wasn't really beneficial either and took it out. This isn't an issue of salvation but ask yourself if it will hold you back, in any area of your heart, from living totally for God.

Tell you what, I saw a young man the other day with a mohawk and another splay of hair plastered the same way on the side. Leather everywhere, piercings everywhere, wouldn't be surprised if he had tatoos under all that. But THAT's the kind of person I want to see in church. Christians don't have to wear suit & tie to get in. Come as you are, God doesn't worry about body work, he repairs the engine.

Consider this - I am a Christian, and I will only say that worrying about piercings, or tattoos or anything like that means that you are being carnally minded, or worrying about the flesh. A practicing Christian is to be spiritually minded, serving God to the best of their ability. 'Be ye holy, as your Father in heaven is holy.' We are living in the last of the last days. Your number one Christian priority should be living as God would have you to live, and spreading the Gospel with an urgency to everyone you meet. Sorry if I offended you by this, but I felt you should know. May love and peace be with you.

Yes. Christians do not inflict wounds upon themselves. It is disrespectful to the human body which is a temple to God.
Of course, it does not discuss ear piercing in the Bible. They were not into quirky, self depreciating behavior such as ear/body piercing during the time of our Lord.

Sorry, I'm not a Christian, but if you have to consult the bible before doing something as simple as piercing your ears you really are not going to get anywhere in life.

Make a decision for yourself, its not too hard.

I say it is ok if you want to do so to wear tasteful jewelry to adorn your beauty. But it depends on your inherited genes. Are your earlobes free or attached. If not free, then I'd recommend against wearing earrings. It just freaks me out.

Historical note:
The idea of a bond-servant (in the NT the Greek word duolos is sometimes translated as slave) comes from OT times, where a servant would pierce his ear as a sign that he is willfully committing himself to be his master's servant for the rest of his life even if he has been set free.

I do not know if it is in the bible, but it is not harmful to pierce your ears. What you put in the pierce maybe though.

The Bible says this:

1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

1 Timothy 2:9-10, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works."

Let Holy Spirit be your guide.

As long as the piercings are considered modest and appropriate to your culture it is no sin.

Even if you later find out that something you did was a sin you can sincerely ask for forgiveness and you will be. Isn't God's Mercy and Grace amaaaaaazing!
