I always hear people that are overweight say they need to lose weight but they can't so they take these pills and all these remedies, I'm a slender guy with a fast metabolism, so i always never really understood why people just could not goto a track and run. if you tel people to go to the track and run, they always say they can't. I played sports all the time, I've literally played basketball until i would pass out or need fluids so i thought that was the same *** a big person running at the track its hard but if you wonna lose weight you would push your body. So is it really that hard for a excessivlyoverweight person to just go to the track and lose the weight. Or is it a thing where they run ten steps and get tired and quit. Isn't running the best way to lose weight. Over weight people i'm not trying to be incensitive. For some people that ar over weight are they just lazy and dont wonna lose weight or are the things they need to do to lose weight to hard for them to try

all you people on here trying not to be insensitive need to quit it. you are being insensitive when you do not take into consideration the story behind each individual. all fat/overweight people are not lazy. they did not wake up one day and were fat. some people have glandular problems and some have emotional problems but you cannot say all are lazy. yes there are some that are lazy and you probably could not get them moving with a crane but that's some. when I say some have emotional problems that's just like people with anorexia or bulimia just the opposite. as far as running no that is not possible for an overweight person. they must walk too much pounding on the joints. so while you are trying not to be insensitive trying being a little more understanding.

I'm glad you're asking in a way that shows you're trying to understand instead of judge.

While there are people who enjoy exercise, like you, there are many people who cannot stand exercise. Plenty of thin people hate exercise and don't eat right and even drink excess alcohol, but they have naturally fast metabolisms they inherited from their families, so they don't have to exercise or eat right to stay slim. Someone who becomes overweight easily would have to eliminate the comforts a slim person takes for granted. If there are slim people who don't sacrifice the comforts, then it makes sense that there are overweight people who don't, either.

I've found that when people engage in activities that are not good for them, such as drinking excess alcohol or eating foods that taste good but are fattening, it's usually because the activity helps them cope with an emotional difficulty. In some cases, overweight people would rather have the comforts than the slim figure. Until the overweight person is able to resolve their emotional difficulty or becomes too frustrated with being overweight (whichever comes first), the condition will persist.

It is very easy for someone who does not have a weight problem to ridicule those that do. I am 62 years old, and carry a few extra pounds. My daily schedule is up at 3 am, typing for 6 hours as it is my first job as a transcriptionist. Then I get ready for my second job which is running a ceramics studio, on my feet for the next 10 hours, then it is home after 16 hours of work ing straight. Then it is home to load the kilns or unload the kilns, get together my class plans for the next day, as I do teach ceramics and fused glass and mosaics, etc. This goes on for 7 days every week, no days off. when I can take a few hours off, I am off buying supplies. I don't consider myself lazy, but I just don't have the time to exercise much less run on a track. Every minute I have that you would consider 'FREE TIME" I have to sleep. Yet I make time for my family and friends, especially if they are in need of support of some type. What I am saying is everyone is different, their lives and jobs have a lot to do with the time alloted for exercise, etc. Some medically just can't do it. Some, yes, some are lazy but don't condem them. They will do what they have to do once they get fet up with themselves. Just my 2 cents.

I have been extremely fit and slim and a runner and also overweight and a runner and boy does it hurt the joints running with too much weight.
The urge to run however has never gone away but it does hurt more so I now use a treadmill and try to power walk rather than run.
Incidentally I am now v fit according to all the miles I can walk etc but still have a lot of body fat so I think not running is not necessarily the reason why people are overweight.

Let's see... when a person runs, with each step they're putting the stress equal to three times their body weight on to their joints. If a 300 pound guy just one day decided to run at the track and 'push his body', as you say, you'd hear his ankles shatter from across the track. That's why they 'can't' just go to the track and run. That doesn't mean that they can't go to the pool and swim, or to the gym to work on the eliptical trainer.
Finally, it's not a matter of being lazy, or not wanting to lose the weight, it's overcoming the lack of confidence, overcoming their low self-esteem, their poor body image. How tough do you think it is for a 300 pound guy to walk around shirtless at the pool? Pretty damn tough.

Hi there, i know what you are saying but sometimes it is not as easy as it seems,as some drugs can cause you to be over weight, also if you try to diet and don't seem to be getting anywhere,it's very easy to start comfort eating which doesn't help at all, plus society puts so much pressure on been fit and healthy, which we all want to be,also look at the young girls and just see how skinny most of them, and that is very unhealthy,we are all different in our metabolism like my husband who can eat cakes and chocolate and not put an ounce on,so please try not to be so hard on us fatties,i'm losing weight anyway and it's far from easy i can tell you, especially as i'm confined to a wheel chair and i'm 55 with arthritis as well, i only hope that as you age you don't become overweight yourself

I myself am overweight, married to a guy who has a fast metabolism. It is just as hard for him to gain weight as it is for me to lose it. I have a big chest which makes it hard for me to excercise. I get out of breath easy because of all the extra weight on my chest. If I could afford to have breast reduction surgery I would so that I could excercise and lose weight. I am far from being lazy. I am a stay-at-home mom with twins that are 21 months old. I take care of them, the house, my older daughter and my husband. I don't think that you are rude for asking this question but some people just have a hard time losing weight. Not everybody who is overweight is lazy.

it's easier to go to the store or dial a number from an infomercial for a bottle of "magic" pills than it is to go exercise. a lot of us want the prize without having to put forth the effort. exercise is something that our country as a whole has gotten away from. it's more comfortable for us to sit in our nice comfy cars, drive thru mcdonald's, park our butts on our nice plush sofas than it is to go to the gym or something.

also, a lot of us are embarrassed by the way we look. we feel that everyone is staring at us when we are working out. it's hard to feel like you are being judged. some overweight people also are physically unable to exercise. when a body carries so much extra weight for so long, the joints and muscles don't work right.

it's a tough question. i don't think you were insensitive in the way that you asked, either. those of us with weight issues really do envy people like you! but, habits are hard to break and we get discouraged when we have to wait for good results!

Well, I am not overweight, however running is very hard on the body. In shape or not. It deteriorates joints, the impact is extremely jarring and it mostly exercises your heart. There are many ways to exercise to lose weight without running. And actually the right way to lose weight is to stay is a specific range of your target heart rate to burn fat which is typically done by walking not running. And although you said you weren't trying to be offensive...generalizing that overweight people are lazy is pretty insensitive.

What u said is perfectly alright. Overweight people should not get to rigorous exercise without proper supervision. Running is a good exercise but too much of it is bad. I learnt dancing and was good at it slim and trim. Once married and children, no time to think of exercise and putting on weight. this is to inform those who run and track should not stop once they start. make it a habit and start and slowly increase. Their metabolism changes as such they become tired. I find it in me and now slowly back on the track.
