Now you ought to know that the stars and the sun revolve around the Earth. The Earth is the center of the universe. Sheesh, where were you in science class? Everyone knows this!

Where in the Holy Bible does it write the Sun goes around the earth? It doesn't, so you wont find it.
It is written that the sun, moon, stars orbit the earth in the front of the Koran though. At least in the front of the Koran I had checked out at the library.
What it writes in the bible is that the earth & the heavens is a circuit. It also writes that the earth spins like a seal is turned onto a document so the wicked stays on the earth (Job, Isaiah, others).
Once God held the sun still so a battle could be won. The sun was already still. God just altered the earth spin.

It might desire to first be reiterated that with remarkable few exceptions no knowledgeable guy or woman interior the historic past of Western Civilization from the 0.33 century B.C. onward believed that the earth became flat. A around earth seems a minimum of as early because of the fact the 6th century BC with Pythagoras, who became accompanied via Aristotle, Euclid, and Aristarchus, between others in gazing that the earth became a sphere. in spite of the fact that there have been some dissenters--Leukippos and Demokritos as an occasion--via the time of Eratosthenes (3 c. BC), accompanied via Crates(2 c. BC), Strabo (3 c. BC), and Ptolemy (first c. advert), the sphericity of the earth became time-honored via all knowledgeable Greeks and Romans. “the two then the earth is around or that's a minimum of of course around. And that's good to call something that which nature intends it to be, and which belongs to it, relatively than which that's via constraint and opposite to nature. The data of the senses extra advantageous corroborates this. How else might eclipses of the moon tutor segments shaped as we see them? as that's, the shapes which the moon itself each and each month exhibits are of all varieties—right this moment, gibbous, and concave—yet in eclipses the define is often curved: and, because of the fact this is the interposition of the earth that makes the eclipse, the kind of this line would be brought about via the kind of the earth’s floor, that's as a result around.” — Works of Aristotle, vol., I, p. 389

With all due respect to some of the answers given and to the question raised I am going to address some of the answers and not the main question. Firstly to say that the bible was written by people is correct and to say that God wrote the bible is also correct. Let me see if I can explain what I mean. The bible claims in numerous places to be the word of God. The writers never claimed that what they wrote was there own creation but always said that it was God who gave them the words to say. Much of the bible is the history of the children of Israel or the Jewish nation. This history provides the diligent reader of the bible with the record of what God did in the past with a group of people who were His but did not always follow him. Their lives serve as an example for us who follow God today. The bible is a Holy book, as it God’s word, but it is full of unholy people. Romans 3:23 tells us that all have sinned even the prophets and their families. The only person reported to be perfect in the scriptures was Jesus Christ. Why then would God include terrible and immoral things in the bible? Well there are many reasons, first the bible is a book for real people with real problems and God who offers real solutions. Second these things are included as an example of how corrupting sin is. It is ultimately sin that is the cause of all of the trouble on the planet from fanatic un-Christlike Christians to killers on death row to natural disasters etc. Third he wants us to learn from the mistakes of those that have gone before us and have an example of His forgiving love.
Getting back now to the topic of the authorship of the bible there are two verses in particular which I think can clear it up (assuming of course that a person has any faith whatsoever in the bible). The first is 2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness," The word translated "breathed" in English also means 'inspired' in the original Greek. So the concept is that God inspired the men who wrote this book and they expressed the truths He gave them in their own languages and writing styles. But it was the same God with the same truth who inspired them all hence why a book written over a period of 1500 years by 40 different people in 3 languages and on 3 different continents about the most controversial subject known to man, ‘God’, can agree and be read from start to finish as one book. The second text is similar to the first, it is 2 Peter 1:21 "For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." Prophecy makes up a large portion of the bible. Men and women through out history have been given messages from God about the future and about His expressed will on a certain issue. The bible says that, moved by God's Holy Spirit, these prophets spoke, not of their own will, but what God wanted them to say.
So conclusion, the bible was written by God because it was Him who inspired it and His Spirit that gave men the words to say and write. Men simply had the privilege of by the spokespersons and scribes for almighty God.

I probably shouldn't do this, but I'm going to answer your question. The Bible is a book that was written by people. The Old Testament is a collection of Jewish writings that explain the history and beliefs of Jews. The Torah is the oldest example we have of this. The New Testament was written by people who either actually knew Jesus, or who knew the disciples and apostles.
Many of the people who wrote the books of the Old Testament did so because they believed that God was telling them what to write. As such, I, as a Christian, believe that their testament is as true as a human being could make it, and that it is a true reflection of their faith in God, as well as a true telling of important history. The Creation story you refer to simply reflects the scientific knowledge of the time. No one lied, but told the truth as they saw it. Our scientific knowledge now is different, but science is nothing if not sceptical and ready to accept new proof as time goes on.
I find no discrepancy between faith in God and belief that science works. Nor do I find discrepancy between various descriptions of God a problem. God is. Humans interpret.

First of all there is no such thing as god.
Secondly the bible was written by what we would regard as fanatics if they lived today.
I don't know anything about the cosmos but I'd say its a bad place to start wondering about ghosts and spirits and the like.
Start off with something simple like - So there's no god so what the hell are we all doing here.

Genesis 1
The Beginning
14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

Does it say that in the bible?
Hahahahaha!! I'd like to see that explained away - hope you get good answers.
My answer would be God didn't write the bible, people did and at the time they didn't know how the earth related to other planets stars etc.
Best wishes.
