Awaken the Sleeping Buddha Within

When the Buddha announced his impending exit from the sphere of mortality, his dear disciple Ananda burst into tears. “Lord, you have been the polestar of our spiritual path so far. Whom should we contact for guidance and higher instructions when you will not be there in the land of the living?” he asked.

The Buddha replied: Atmadeepo bhava - Be light unto yourself.

Your wavering, questioning self must be silenced at the still point of concentrated consciousness. Amidst the darkness of worldly delusion only the emanation of radiance from within - like the full moon - can bring enlightenment. Guru Purnima symbolises emanation of inner illumination, the awakening of the sleeping Buddha within.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna advised his dear disciple Arjuna: “Lift yourself up with the help of your self ”. You are your best friend, philosopher and guide, at the same time you can be your worst enemy as well. Arjuna was never advised to seek refuge in a guru. Rather, he was advised to rise above all religious rituals and seek refuge in Him, the embodiment of eternal Being, the pure Consciousness, and real Self behind the apparent ripples of delusion.

The concept of seeking the light within is perfectly in tune with scientific spirituality. Whenever we sincerely seek intuitive guidance from within we create a magnetic pool to attract the requisite energy vibrations of infinite potentiality hidden within us. Each soul is potentially divine and we need to awaken this divinity through concentrated efforts and continuous aspiration. This is spirituality. No one else can make us gain the same; we need to source it from inside.

In the Mahabharata, when Dronacharya refused to accept Eklavya as his disciple, the boy made an image of Dronacharya and started practising archery in front of the image. Consequently, he mastered the art of archery as good as Arjuna who was the best direct disciple of Dronacharya, through assiduous practice and intuitive skills. The secret lies in intense aspiration leading to requisite release of the potential hidden within through the psychology of faith in a guru despite the physical absence of the guru in the learning process.

Aurobindo had an experience in cosmic consciousness due to his intense aspiration and soul searching. He never had a guru. Although he received instructions on yoga from Bhaskar Lele, he never accepted him as his guru and his teachings did not lead him to self-realisation.

A true guru can be instrumental in transformation of our ego into divine self and release of divine consciousness through the mechanism of faith. But the dogmatic claim of the essentiality of a guru in the spiritual path falls apart on closer scrutiny. The life of the Buddha, Christ, Ramakrishna, Aurobindo, Ramana Maharshi and others bear ample testimony to the fact. Guru Purnima, therefore, is an occasion for awakening of our inner illumination in full beam for manifestation of the divinity already within us.

Are you saying that you are basically an Athiest? And that you're wondering how the world started? Maybe do some reading on the internet about the Big Bang and the history of the Earth.

I can see where you are coming from, I have wondered why we are here, and what the point of life is. If we are just here by accident and if there is really no purpose to our existence at all. But in the short time I've lived, I really just feel like there is so much more than an accident. I don't know if I necessarily believe in the all seeing, all knowing, and coldly judgemental God that so many do, but I do believe in something, that I call God. I think we're all connected some how, and there is some sort of purpose to all this. :)

Good luck in your search for your own beliefs! :)

If there is no creator then they is simply no creation. To argue that something that exists came out of a mere explosion you would have to argue who provoked that explosion in the first place. look around you everywhere in our planet, every living thing is equipped with the physical characteristics necessary for survival. The fact that we have a thumb which makes it easier for us to pick things up, means that there was a reason behind us having a thumb. Look at a polar bear, why would he need those heavy claws and extra thick coat? To be able to break the ice and fish for seals while at the same time keeping warm in its icy habitat. Every animal, every thing has that tool for survival. Why does a giraffe need a long neck? To be able to reach the best leaves found on the top of trees which are necessary for digestion and survival.

These are just three examples of an infinity of them. But if you think about it, if everything has a purpose than wouldn't the planet which was also created, have a purpose too? Yes it has a purpose and it was created by God to serve as the home where we would live our lives and come to know where we came from, which is from God. God is the beginning.

The very fact that a sun and moon exists proves that there was a reason behind their existance. The sun keeps us warm while at the same time giving us the cycle of the seasons. Why is there gravity on earth but not outside of it? It's because the absence of gravity is what will make it possible for this marvelous ball called planet earth, to be suspended over nothing. Imagine if our planet were to lie on some surface, than nothing would exist because we would all be crushed whenever the earth rotates and swipes its surface against the floor on which it lays. And yet, gravity affects us in the earth and it needs to in order for everything to stay in its place. Imagine, if we were all floating here on earth, than our way of life wouldn't exist. There would'nt be any homes, buildings, food on trees etc.

Everything comes together quite perfectly doesn't it. That means that there is wisdom behind it. It was carefully planned and wisdom doesn't come out of that which is abstract like nature itself. How can nature, which has no eyes, and no ears, and no mind, ever conceive of smart decisions like these? They can only come from one creator. That creator is God. God thinks, God hears and God sees that is why God is able to create things and make them perfect.

The truth is that it can't be all a lie. Maybe theres no "God" out there but theres defenetly something so strong and so advance compare to us humans. Theres to many wonders in the world, things that us Humans could have never done on our own. Some say its Aliens, some say its good. I'm pretty sure maybe 80% of religions aren't all true facts and maybe they streach out thr truth s bit. I just don't believe its all a lie. It can't be, that would be impossible.

There is no heaven or hell. They are mental constructs.

We are in a universe that will flow for eternity - which means it will flow until final entropy is reached. We (and those like us) counter entropy in everything that we do. We make reality and keep creating thus staving off final entropy indefinitely. The universe is billions of years old - so there are others also creating reality.

When I think like a creator of reality - I think that I want to make self perpetuating machines so I don't keep having to mind all my creations because I'm focused on eternity. That is exactly what the Earth is - a self perpetuating reality/consciousness machine. Our computing power is growing everyday - one day we will be able to compute at the speed of light - it will be incredible.

Take heart - and open your eyes to what really is - not shrouded in myth, legend, and misinterpreted history.

Boy, that's an open question, if ever I've seen one...

Bottom line - we exist. "Science" has been able, for all its advances, neither to account for the "natural" origin of, nor the "natural" reason for life.

Only alternative - "super"natural creation.

Only One responsible - think of it this way: if Satan had created the world, it would stand to reason that he'd leave some proof for his followers.

Now, I've heard the reasons alot of Satanist give for worshipping him, but NEVER have I heard one of them claim he is responsible for Creation.

Leaves only one rationalization - God created the heavens and the earth, and all that dwell within.

If you question the religious tenets, but are open minded about creation, try reading "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website. It is the thinking person's knowledge of God, and our numbers are fast growing. Have a good day.

No one will ever know how the world started but a big bang is just as plausible as it being created in 7 days.

You are asking the question to yourself backwards...meaning, first you have to actually believe in something and it sounds from your question that you don't actually believe. Believing in something is what gives people "HOPE" in life. Everyone needs hope. It all depends on what you CHOOSE to believe in. Do your research and find a belief that suits YOU and how you feel about things. Many cultures have various beliefs and that is what gives these people hope.
