when ever I turn my heat or defrost on I smell gasoline coming through the vents, what is the problem, and does it pose a health risk?

You have a fuel leak, probably under the hood. It poses a MAJOR health risk for two reasons. First off, the fumes are not good for you. Second, and arguably most importantly, you have a high risk of a FIRE due to the leak.

Get it fixed immediately! Don't drive the car until it is fixed!

oh that is a real problem u got there..seek a mechanic immediately..there might be leakage on the fuel line..quite dangerous.
