The Nazi regime spread vicious propaganda that convinced millions of German citizens to hate Jews and other ethnic minority groups. They eventually were part of Hitler's "final solution" which resulted in the deaths of millions of innocent people all because of the hatred, bigotry and lies spread by Hitler's propaganda machine.
Today, in the U.S.A., propagandists like Fox "News" and Rush Limbaugh are nothing more than babbling bobbleheads for the Republican Party. The conservative-biased media blindly reads government press releases verbatim without any regard for accuracy, truthfulness, or completeness. The fourth estate is no longer the watchdog of society, checking to ensure that our government doesn't deceive us. Instead, today's conservative media disregards the truth, fails to conduct investigations into government information, doesn't bother to question or doubt anything the government says, and actually allows the government to get away with whatever it damn well pleases.
Our government has lied to us consistently about everything from U2 spy planes over the U.S.S.R. to the effects of agent orange on Vietnam veterans. Not since the days of Watergate has the media conducted any in-depth inquiries into government activity.
If you disagree with the conservative shouting heads, your voice is muffled or silenced, just as those who disagreed with Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini were quieted by execution. It's only a matter of time before conservatives will convince ditto heads that it's perfectly acceptable to kill liberals, non-Christians, gays, or anyone else whose view of the world doesn't agree with the conservatives' view of how things should be.
America is a melting pot. European "illegal immigrants" came to this country and massacred the native Americans because they were 'savage' Indians. Then they slaughtered buffalo and raped the land, both of which the Indians considered sacred and belonging to the common good. But we tend to forget about those atrocities, just as we tend to forget about the atrocities we've inflicted on the people of Iraq just so we can steal all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands.
The fact of the matter is: Americans are no longer a caring society of compassionate, selfless people. Ronald Reagan's "All for One...ME!" has trickled down into our national community, and we care only about ourselves. Rich people don't care about the poor. Pretty people disdain the ugly. Smart people can't abide dumb people. Conservatives hate liberals. Christians don't tolerate those of other religions. Straights can't stand gays. And, America's arrogance fails to recognize that we're only 5% of the global population that squanders over 55% of the world's resources.
We are greedy, arrogant, selfish, self-absorbed people whose hubris only allows us to see our goodness through our own eyes. -RKO-

I've seen a lot of the anti-American accusations on here as well. I feel like I'm almost preaching the point that opposition is not disrespect, but it's because a lot of people don't seem to know the difference. Illegal immigration, among many others on this forum, are touchy subjects and many would rather label than have honest, fair discussions about them.

Your an American. This is a problem from our president when he told the European countries about not supporting him in Iraq, that they didn't support America...a bunch of sh_t. I know SEALS, SF Guys, allot of Marines that either retired or got out after 3 or 4 tours in Iraq or Afghanistan that hate Bush and his proxy war. I served 6 years in the USMC, fought in Grenada and Panama, but unless America is being invaded, our presence overseas is not even appreciated especially since Bush has been president. With street gangs dominating our large cities, more homeless people, shrinking middle-class, and a increase of ILLEGAL immigrants, we have allot to do in the US and not in some sand box. America is a land of LEGAL immigrants, and just because you, me and a million other do not agree with the policies doesn't make us Anti-American. I'm an independent, I voted for Reagan, I voted for Clinton, and the first time I voted for Bush (2d time Kerry). I wish some a__ would come to me and say I'm Anti-American.
Your an American with a private viewpoint, and that is what America is suppose to be about, but it seems that right is going away.
Thumbs up.

As usual, the right answer is somewhere in the middle. No one should call you un-American. It is American to have an opinion, and to voice it. On an individual basis, I would agree that anyone who seeks refuge from a place that offers only poverty and no potential for growth, deserves a chance at a better life. I can appreciate the desire to work hard to give one's family a better life.
But, there are some things wrong with a culture that keeps having so many, many children when they are already dirt poor- no way to take care of them- and expecting someone else to foot the bill. (That's called stealing.) Because the REALITY is that the middle class tax payers always pay. We pay with our hard earned money, and our children pay when they can no longer receive a decent public education, depending on where we live. Not to mention the high crime rates in places with concentrated illegals. So, don't expect too many people to agree with you on the illegal issue. It is a problem that needs to be resolved, which means if someone is here illegally, they may need to go back and wait their turn.

People are not calling you anti-American because you have a different point of view. You're missing the entire point.
People call you anti-American because you disrespect the laws of this great nation. You can not pick and choose which laws to follow and which to ignore just because you disagree with the law. That is un-American not your difference of opinion.
Being American is about respecting and honoring our laws. All of them, not just the ones that are seemingly convenient to you.

Please let me answer your question with a couple of simple questions.
1) To address the specific immigration issue:
Why do think that the United States of America has fewer rights than other sovereign nations? Our immigration laws are more liberal than those of countries like Sweden, Germany, Canada, and France which liberals often hold out as models of public policy. Doesn't the USA have the same rights as the other nations of the world? Why do you hold the USA to a different standard?
2) To address the issue of patriotism:
If you had a sibling or close friend who judged you more harshly than they did others and told you regularly 1) that you were a bully, 2) that you were naive, 3) that you were not well-educated, and 4) that you didn't really understand any of the important issues in the world, how long would you consider them to be a friend? At some point, wouldn't you start to think that they are really against you?
Thanks for listening.

The way people behave are the way people are treated. You as an American have the right to defer from the rest of the world but when you do it you have to do it with out attacking or offending and in return you will be treated the same way. I'm a Hispanic just like you and I'm against illegal immigration because is illegal and because is have turned into an invasion from the South and is hurting our way of life like education, health care, housing, wages, etc. Because of all of these and because is an invasion I'm against it. My country is the USA and I will defend it from any body domestic or foreign. You don't have to be extremist to be anti illegal, just right that's all. remember illegal is illegal, period. You just be a proud American and defer from every body respectfully is your right.

Expressing one's views on issues like immigration, which may or need not be pro-government, does not imply that person is anti-American or unpatriotic. It could even be said that such an attitude towards those persons, who rightfully and freely express their views, is totally bizaare if not silly!
Never mind about what others think; keep expressing your views, of course rationally; time will prove who is right or wrong. Anyway, in a debate, there is bound to be opposing views. Afterall, that is the essence of democracy and a free country which is what this country claims to be!

I agree with you about the fact that you can disagree and not be anti-American. I for one am disgusted by some people (no offense, but mostly liberals) but that doesn't mean I think they are anti-American.
I do disagree with you on immigration. I am descended from immigrants from the countries of Germany, Scotland and Ireland. And I think it is a slap in my ancestors face for anyone to break the laws of this country to be here. Furthermore, I think it is a slap in the face for some of these immigrants to come here to continue breaking the law. Nobody is saying they are not welcome. What is being said is there is a right way to come here. At the same time, the government needs to make it a little easier and less time consuming to get here legally. Nobody seems to be looking at that aspect.

Anti-American--I don't know. But you are bigoted if you are not willing to extend mercy to all nonviolent offenders here, not just illegals. Why should we imprison so many of our own people for what amounts to the same thing as what illegals are claiming to do---breaking the law to give themselves and their families a better life? If you are illegal then anything you obtain here is stolen from citizens. Why should we punish our thieves yet give illegals a free ride because some of you feel sorry for them? Believe it or not they think you are stupid for wanting to let them take advantage of us. And think what you will, but my opinion does not make me racist. There are many legal immigrants of all races who are against illegal immigration.

I know, if you don't believe in deporting people and making their lives and their family's life miserable, then you are anti-American. If you think that the immigration should be fair for everyone and not just anti-illegals, then you are anti-American. I'm sorry but that thought is starting to scare me sounds like those of Hitler. Full amnesty for selected immigrants.
