In most cases, constipation arises from insufficient amounts of fiber and fluids in the diet. Fiber that is soluble in water takes on a soft texture and helps soften the stools. Insoluble fiber passes through the intestine largely unchanged and adds bulk to stools, which in turn helps to stimulated bowel contractions. Regular bowel movements are an important mechanism for removing toxins from the body. You should drink a quart of water for every 50lbs of body weight you are. You can take docusate sodium and calcium sennosides found in the Senna's for relief of constipation. None habit forming.

Regular activity will help. The more we move, the more our gut moves. Fruits and vege's, whole grain breads, basically fiber sources. Grandma's old standby of prunes or prune juice may help. Stimulant laxatives can cause cramping and pain and in general should be a last resort because your system can become dependent on them. Coffee can get things moving as well, it sure does me. Good luck.
