Yams are very healthy. Among other things they are high in Vitamin C, beta-carotine, and fiber. Carbs will not make you fat. Fat will make you fat. Yams have no fat. They are sweet but not all sugar is bad for you. The sugar found in yams is not as bad as refined white sugar.

My Husband is on the South Beach Diet and in phase two - on the SBD the ONLY kind of potato you're allowed to eat is a Yam (or sweet potato). He's lost more than 20 pounds now on the diet, so as long as you aren't over-doing it with sugar or toppings on your sweet potato, I don't think you'll gain weight and I think they are still fairly healthy.

Yes. It is a much better choice than the white potato (which instantly turns to processed sugar in your body). Yams are rich in many nutrients, fiber, and virtually fat free. Try baking and topping w/a tiny bit of butter and brown sugar, chunking and roasting them with olive oil and rosemary, or making baked potato wedge "fries" out of them. MMMMMMMM.

yes yams are delicious when made with marshmallows and cinnamon and butter. But unfortunately yams are very starchy. If you must have any kind of potatoes go organic

Yes they are do good to eat. Also healthy, just boiled or baked with a touch of salt to contrast the natural sweetness of it. Of course the key is moderation and portion control with every thing we eat so I don't see any problem with adding to a healthy and balanced diet.

It depends how it's cooked! If it's full of sugars, it's no better than eating a donut. A little butter, than your okay.
