and embrace diversity and the fact that curry is just as much part of English cuisine as fish and chips..

Why all the moaning about losing Englishness??

It is still there..but now you have a choice as well.

Good point. The same could be said about the US and some of the countries in Europe.
Perhaps, they are moaning more about losing that feeling of "specialness" of the old ways. I doubt it has much to do with food (though it was a good analogy) because traditional English food is rather tasteless.

England has always been a multicultural country and to deny this is foolishness.

A little history: The Celts displaced by Roman movements came accross from mainland Europe and conquered the Stone and Bronze age people living in what we now call England, The Romans came accross and pushed the Celts up into the North and West, when the Romans left in the 5th C the Anglo-Saxons attacked from Germany (the word 'English' comes from 'Anglish' - the root of the English language is German), the Vikings attacked and settled in the British Isles in the 8th to 11th centuries, the Normans came accross from France in 1066, In the age of Exploration (15-17thC) Englishmen sailed all over the world bringing back goods but also diverse peoples, languages and cultures.

And on and on the story goes. There is no 'pure' English culture, it has always been a mixture of various cultures. Its just that most of those cultures were people with white skin (but very different cultures) and now there are other cultures present that are not European based.

If you can get past skin colour and if you really look at history then you will see that there is really no need to ask your question. Perhaps a better one is, why does racism even exist when England has had such a long history of mixing cultures?

Just listen here right, I still think of England as good place to be, even with the current tensions which Osama Dust Bin Liner helped to nurture, before he came along everyone was getting on just fine in the United Kingdom and in America.

People just need to remember that even the situation in the previously very easy and calm USA really has been exacerbated by the shock of 911, I very much doubt that there would be all of this tension among the various communities had 911 NEVER EVER HAPPENED !

What I am seeing in both Britain and America is nearly 40 years of good relations built on improved understanding being reversed right back to the Ugly past because of the after effects of these crazy terrorists.

Many whites, myself included, not only accept it but are happy about it, it's a shame that many ethnic minorities don't have the same attitude.

Insisting on single faith schools, insisting on using languages other than English in the home, supporting other teams than England at sport (even when 3rd or 4thh generation English).

If the white english insisted on half of what the monorities do it would be classed as racist.

So why is it seen OK for others to do it.

Most British people embrace multiculturalism and feel it has bought a lot to our society (including curry!).
But people who are not British living here need to integrate, this is not racist but a lot of communities completely separate themselves which does not encourage multiculturalism but creates racial tensions.
If you live in a Country, you need to abide by its laws, whether you like them or not.

You know - I am not even English - and I know that isn't true. London is a cosmopolitan city that much is true - but the UK can't define itself as multicultural - don't get me wrong - I love the UK - but multicultural no - accepting and a cool place to be - very much yes.

Some trees bear good fruit some don't. The English have brought us a good legal system. The so called mixing destroys the progress of all cultures. What a shame it would be to mix China with Africa
