Well, you have 2 choices.
1. You could go to the doctor and if it is broken they will have no choice but to put a cast or splint on it for it to heal properly.
2. You could ignore it, put some ice on it and relax, but be warned that if it is broken and you don't get it taken care of you will be hobbling around possibly for the rest of your life, walking with a cane at a young age. Then if you decide then that it is bothersome they will have to re-break it to be able to fix it properly.
My suggestion is to go with option #1. I broke a foot when I was 12. (my first date at a school dance of all places!) All the doctor put on it was a shoe thing that I could remove at my leisure. You may only get that.
Please go get it checked.

It had to be a guy asking this!
OK - yeah it sounds like you may have cracked something. NO its unlikely they would do more than strap it. A cast is usually used where there are muscles which will pull bones out of alignment.
From personal experience - strapping hurts more than the original pain.
If its black and blue it is obviously bruised and that will hurt just on its own.
Elevate the foot, take it easy and take something for the pain rather than just complaining about it. You could try an ice pack but usually that's used in the first 24hrs to reduce the bruising.
You can check to see if there are any areas of local heat - a fairly good indicator of a break.
If you are still worried - for goodness sake - just go and see a Dr..

I did the some thing and that **** hurt so bad. Everyone was laughing at me becaused I cursed and I rarely curse. It hurted so bad man. It makes me curse when I think about it. The toe hurted for almost a week without touching it. After that it only hurted when I touched it and it stayed blue and sore to the touch for 3mo. Just as long as you can move it a little it should be ok. You probably can't hardly bend it because it is swollen. Mine remained swollen for 2mo. but now I am ok no dr. or cast and foot is normal now.

What did you do to hurt it? If it's not swollen beyond belief - theres a good chance its NOT broken! How do I know? Because have broke my wrist, elbow and leg as an adult. The word 'pain' isn't EVEN the right word!! I hate to say it, but if it really is slowing you down in your regular activities - I'd go see a doctor. Sorry, bud!

Hi,,, hmm,, the foot has a zillion small bones in it, and it is very easy to break some....
I suggest either go to the doctor and get an X-ray done and go from there,,,,, or just suffer thru it....
good luck

Only your doc and you can decide about cast or splint or whatever but i can tell you from experience you probably have nerve damage, which hurts tremendously more than just broken bone. and unfortunately takes months to really feel better

sorry but I am going to be as blunt and as honest with you as I can, you can either go to the doctors and get done what needs to be done which will eventually help your foot heal properly or you can do nothing about it which might wind up leaving you with a permanent limp for the rest of your life because you didn't go get it taken care of, the choice here seems pretty obvious, get yourself to the hospital and get it looked at or be known as gimpy for the rest of your life behind your back

You need to go to the doctor and find out if it is broken. They usually just tape up broken toes.
