Wholemeal is the whole grain, milled
Wholewheat has part of the husk removed, milled
Wheatgerm is just the nutritious part of the grain, not the bran/ roughage
Brown bread is just like white but with malk or dye added to make change colour and look better for you!
Always by WHOLEMEAL if you what to improve your health.
Good luck.

I only buy wholewheat pasta, and it's not much different from white, apart from penne which i found quite disgusting. always go for wholewheat or wholemeal grains in general-this doesn't include brown bread. Also avoid processed foods/ ready meals wherever possible, cut out salt wherever possible, and look for hidden sugars in foods (anything ending in -ose means its a sugar) You're making a good start, and once you get used to it, you won't want to go back.

In the US we call 'wholemeal' whole grain flour. The grain can be wheat, oats, rice, or a combination of grains mixed together. So, whole grain tortillas, breads, pastas would be any product in which the whole grains have been ground and used in the flour (meal) as opposed to white flour which has been 'refined' to the point where it has little or no nutrients left. White flours often have nutrients added back, making it 'enriched'. Wholemeal or whole grain products are healthier because generally has more nutrition, closer to the food's natural state and is naturally fiber rich.

If you eat everything that is described as Wholemeal you will be more healthy as it assists the digestion of food through the bowel. This relates to bread, pasta and anything that is described as whole..... Brown rice is a wholegrain and is therefore better for you for the same reasons. Eating wholegrain is reputed to reduce the risk of bowel cancer.
Fruit and Veg is whole and is not processed. Processed food has a lot of the roughage and nutrients taken out.
Best breakfast foods are wholegrain cereals such as oats, weetabix, shredded wheat. All Bran is OK as it is roughage but contains a great deal of sugar.
Sugar is OK if it is not refined and white. Complicated isn't it. But the forgoing are some simple ground rules to help you along.
Good luck from me to you.

Never heard of whole meal pasta, I have tried the whole wheat and did not like it. I went right back to regular pasta. I eat everything wheat so I decided to try wheat pasta, it really is pretty nasty. It is too thick and when you cook it, it is like glue and it is grainy as well. You can try it, but I am sure that you will switch back to regular pasta. This is just my opinion. Good luck!!
