Unfortunately, cockatiels are not avid talkers- you may have already reached the end of his learning ability.
One thing you can try is tape recording the word and playing it back to him over and over when you're not there. Or, you can try teaching him to associate the word with something- for example, say the word and offer him a treat- birds are smart, sooner or later he'll try to say the word just to get his treat out of you. Make sure you say it in an exciting voice, so it sounds interesting to him. Make it the first thing you say when you enter the room he's in, the word you say when you take him out of his cage, give him food, give him treats, etc. If he's always hearing an excited word when good things happen, he'll be more likely to try and imitate it.
I've also heard that teaching cockatiels to whistle a lot will diminish their ability to talk, so try to avoid whistling at him if you can.

sure, they are able to speak, and whistle. that's not very effortless although... climate or not you may practice it relies upon on the guy chook. when I have been given my cockatiel, I appeared at a snatch of four. 3 widely used grays, and a cinnoman... I took the cinnoman. Later, i found out, that, with the two the mothers and dads being widely used grays, that propose that the father had to be split to cinnoman (potential he has it, yet would not look it), which meant that any of his cinnoman babies (with a classic gray hen) could be woman. I took what became in all probability the only woman chook in the snatch! such as you, I had aims to have a speaking, whistling chook... and that i've got tried to coach my incredible 'teil... yet... she hasn't discovered... yet I nonetheless would not commerce her for a male chook that already whistles and talks anyday! She's a incredible, candy chook, and he or she could in no way injury a element.

Not every cockatiel can learn to talk. Just keep repeating the words or phrases you want him to learn, and he may pick them up. Consider making a tape recording of your voice and playing it on repeat when you're out of the house. If he ever does say a word you like, be sure to reward him with treats or attention as soon as he does - to start off with, reward him anytime he seems to be listening to you saying that word, then reward him if he makes any noise when you say that word, then reward him as he sounds more and more like it.
Good luck!

your bird will talk in its own time. but to speed things up a bit, you can make a tape. use small clear words to start. repeat them about 10 to 15 times. no more than about 3 or 4 to start, then play the tape each time you leave. this not only keeps them company, but increases the chances of having them talk.

I have learned with my cockatiel...Romeo.....That repetitiveness is the best way. I used to have a tape for cockatiels that said the same things over and over. But you can't do it too long because they can get overstimulated...Good luck!

If it is a female it won't. Just repeat the word everytime you walk by the cage.

If the bird is hardheaded about learning to says something, it is really out of your control. You can try to coax it, but that is about the limit of what you can do.

Might be quicker to learn to be a ventriliquist. Get good at it and none of your friends will ever notice, now that would be impresive wouldnt it?
