Great question, but you will not like the answer.

All of our past leaders for the last 20 years or more have belonged to a group called Bohemian Grove. It is a place where the world elite meet to drink and worship a stone idol of an Owl.

Some of the members are Bush Sr and Jr, Billy Boy, Regan, Nixon etc, etc.

This is why I also say it is a myth about the left and the right, the true division in our country is Freedom vs Enslavement. Leaders from both parties go to the same place in July to worship an Owl.

There must be a separation of church and state, Our forefathers had it right, the government can not and should not endorse any religion. But what the secular progressives fail to do is follow through with the spirit of that amendment, any religion should not and shall not be removed or argued against either. The government is just not to "take sides" if you will. Christianity is the frame work of all our laws, it is what make us the greatest country in the world. This country was founded on Christian and Jewish philosophy like it or not SP's. Even to this day congress, the house of rep, and other local meeting begin with a prayer. Every politician is sworn in to office. So my friend God is and always be part of the American belief system.

The forefathers of this great God given country of ours escaped religious persecution from thier home lands and found refuge here.

"Seperation of church and state" was coined by Jefferson, not written in the Constitution. Its a side note. Jefferson's intention was the free excersize of religion for everyone not to supress one or all religion. This country of ours allows and accepts all religion to be excersized freely without the fear of persecution or surpression.

Not believing in God or a god is also a form of religion. Self reliance is another form of religion not many people know.

In Washington D.C. there is scripture all over in the national monuments. Even the CIA has John 8:32 inscribed on the wall when you first walk in to Langley. However, America is turning it's back on The LORD, and it will be the destruction of our beloved country. People always quote "seperation of church and state" and out of context too. All that was ment by that was that "the church" should not run the country as it did in England. During that time Catholics were doing the same thing that muslims are doing now, just on a lesser scale. Killing anybody who wasn't ready to accept the Lord, just like the muslims.

This is where the "silent majority" factor comes in. 80-88% of this country claims to be Christian. However more than 90% of those 80% are really just calling themselves christians. They have no relationship with Jesus Christ except on Christmas and Easter, both of which are pagan holidays and in truth have nothing to do with Jesus Christ. Then you have your people who go sit in a "church" every sunday and walk out the same way they went in spiritually dead! People sit in Joel Osteen"s, and Rick Warren's churches and listen to psychology NOT the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The sad truth is the vast majority of this country doesn't even know who Jesus Christ is or what the Gospel is. The fear of The LORD is the begining of wisdom, if man no longer fears Him, what should you expect?

As I said before: governments have percecuted christians sense ancient times. And I do not believe that the government has the capability of setting an example of true christianity. A good tree bringeth forth good fruit. A corrupt tree bringeth forth corrupt fruit. Know a tree by its fruit my friend! If it doesn't show love, compassion, and generocity. Then its not of God. The bible seems to portray government as the enemy of God.

And which god would you prescribe to? The catholic idea of god? The protestant? The baptist? The mormon? etc.? And that only covers what christian gods. What about the hindus? The buhdists? The wiccans? And the list goes on and on. Point is people like you would only be satisfied if the declared god would be the one of your choosing. You do not see that doing such a thing would cause much more harm and violence. Seperation of church and state is a very wise concept and it needs to be defended. Government determined by religious views is unwise, dangerous, and a formula for disaster.

Because this country was founded on the concept of seperation of church and state. And for good reason. The founding fathers came from an environment where which religion they followed was dictated by the king. They reasoned that government would run better and be more fair if religion wasn't a part of it.
