No dont cut it!!!! Use peanut butter rub it into the gum really good and slowly start combing it out. keep up with the peanut butter until you get it all out then wash. My daughter had hair down to her butt and got some gum in there and it worked for us.

I'm glad to see people have given you such good remedies. I didn't know either at the time and didn't have access to help immediately. So being the creative hair cutter I am (not professional - just a mother), I cut and 're-styled' my daughter's hair. It looked cute and REALLY looks good now that it's grown out a little. She only lost length and little thinning. I was blessed it wasn't worse! I hope you get YOURS out!

Ice will harden the worst of the gum which then can be picked out - any stubborn bits may have to be cut out. Don't worry as hair grows!!! The treatment can be effective as a future deterent.

Penut butter. My mother showed my sister that when she (my sister) had some in her hair. Just rub the gummed up part with penut butter, you may need to work it out with a comb, but you won't have to cut it like most do. also, even though my mother used Creamy, I don't think it matter's what kind. who knows, maybe the chunks in Chunky will work as some kind of scrubber.

Creamy peanut butter! Work some into the hair-gum tangle and it will come right out. Wash her hair of course!

Apparently it can be managed when frozen and breaks away more easily. Try using ice cubes if the hair is short.
