My cat (12yrs) has been getting blood in his stool. He is totally healthy and active otherwise. Any suggestions? I do not have alot of money for vet bills.

usually only internal bleeding, polyps or stomach ulcers cause bleeding. He would still be active if it was just a stomach ulcer or such, if it was interal bleeding he would die wihin at least a week and be getting sicker. So if hes healthy and its been awhile then i would take him to the doc as soon as you can afford it. Also if he ate something with jagged edges like a chicken bone he could have poked a hole in the lining of his intestine. If it were worms, they will most likely come out in his poop.

you really should take him to the vet and get it checked out. see a vet that will take monthly payments if need be. if you don't treat now it could turn into a larger problem and much more expensive. could be something as simple as IBS and he may need a new vet prescribed food. do your kittie a favor and take him in now. i know monetarily it's tough, but let your vet know...they'll work with you on it and you and your kittie will feel better at the end of the day. just see a vet you can trust, and one that will test out the less expensive of the possibilities 1st. good luck!!! :) keep us posted.

if he was constipated or trying to pass a large stool he could have strained to push it out which in turn caused blood

sounds like worms, have to go to vet to find out which kind unless you have a microscope and can determine yourself.

could be worms, could be hemeroids (sp?), could be something more serious. Maybe you should take your kitty for a check-up..
