Need a good software to gain access (with permission) to another persons computer. It would save me time running to my relatives home, just to find they have a virus or malware, or too much junk, which II could fix remotely. (Just like Geek Squad and others use.)

Probably the safest means would be for your relataive to place the files you're interested on an online storage area such as some ISP's provide. You could also check out IBackup.
The benefit is that you don't have to run software on either computer that potentially leaves a hole for hackers. Remote access software leaves a client running which hackers could use to potentially gain full access to the computer if not shut down.
Some providers offere free accounts. Some accounts may be mapped as a hard drive on the client computer. It's worth checking out.

Connect both yours and your relative's computer in a network through direct cable or through switch or bridge.

Add both your computers to a domain or workspace.

Add permission for you system in your relative's system.

Then do a remote desktop from yourmachine to your relative machine and do all the working as you do in your computer.

If both computers are running Windows XP, you can use Windows Messenger. You'll find the how-to's in Window's Help/Remote Assistance. I've used it with very good results.

With Wdw's XP you don't need any additional software! Go to "Help and Support", first page, click on remote assistance!
Everything's there!
