It all depends on where you get the tat and also how sensitive you are to pain. I have two, one on each breast, and I honestly fell asleep while they were being done. My husband on the other hand said all of his hurt like heII, and he's a tat artist. I've known a lot of people who say they do hurt, but even more that say they don't hurt. I think the anticipation is worse than the actual pain of the tattoo.
Even if your sensitive to pain, getting one is still bearable because they lift the needle every few seconds to wipe away excess ink and blood. So you get relief, it's not a constant pain.

I have one on my ankle. Yes, it hurt...quite a bit more than I thought it would. The worse pain came when he was coloring in after the outline. The colors would have to be overlapped on parts that were already done. You can ask the artist to let you feel the pain from an empty needle with no ink before he begins. You will have to pay something I'm sure....but at least you will know if you can handle it. I felt it was worth the pain and the healing process after.

Well my tattoo took 3 hours to do. The last half hour hurt like hell because it was so inflamed. But other than that I thought it felt pretty good! I'm not a sick wacko person either! haha

It depends on where you get it. Mine didn't hurt at all, more irritating than pain. Just felt like someone was scratching me. On your ribs and spine it does hurt a bit. Like the others said, it depends on your threshold for pain. Also, for some reason - women can take more pain than the men (only they like to get a little more dramatic about it when they are in pain).

I have one on my lower back (and no I am not a tramp) that one took 2.5 hours and it hurt a lot. I have one on my ankle and that one wasn't so bad. Tattoos hurt, it depends where you get them as to how much.

YES. It does hurt because it feels like a needle is being punctured in your skin and dragged through. It definitely hurts, but it will be worth it if you really want one.
