GOLDEN Wonder, the firm that invented flavoured crisps and was for years one of Britain's most recognisable brands, went into administration on Monday 11 Jan 2006, putting 850 jobs at risks.

The company said it had suffered "serious trading difficulties" as it tried to compete in a market dominated by its rival Walkers, which is owned by the multinational PepsiCo.

Crispmaker Tayto is to buy most of its rival Golden Wonder, the company has announced.
Tayto will take over the Golden Wonder brand name and the firm's major manufacturing plant in Scunthorpe.

Golden wonder went under earlier in the year which is a real shame
as they introduced the first flavoured crisp - cheese and onion.

Golden Wonder went into decline when walkers started selling direct to shops and not to wholesalers. Now coming back with new ranges including 'Golden Skins'. I believe they have been bought by Tayto of NI

Tayto of Tandragee, the Irish crisp makers (Very good ) bought them out, I would imagine that they will restart production.
I note in the news that there is a lot of contraversy concerning the amount of fat in crisps, maybe they are trying to reduce fat, but retain flavour.

I think they were struggling to keep up financially with the likes or Walkers and went into administration.

I think i also read an irish firm has bought up the name but i don't know if they will continue to make their products.
