An OTC pain killer like motrin, advil or tylen will help. a heating pad will work better than ice. ice is for swelling usually, heat is for pulled muscles. you will need to slowly need to stretch the muscle back out to alleviate the pain. I, too, have neck pain that causes me headaches. If the pain doesn't go away in a day or two, go to your doctor. He/she will be able to prescribe some mild muscle relaxers to help while you learn some some exercises so that the strain doesn't happen again.

my suggestion is a heating pad applied to the neck for 30 minute increments. You could also try a warm soak in a tub. Trying using a mild pain reliever like tylenol or motrin. For muscle pain my personal recommendation is Naproxen also known as Aleve

ok. roll up a towel, like you are heading to the beach. put it on the floor and put a pillow at the top. lie on the towel (between your shoulder blade, running north/south), put your head on the pillow, but not too propped up or allowed to fall backwards. bend your knees and stay there for 10 minutes. then slowy start to move your head to the left and right, stopping just short of where it gets painful - hold for 2o secs. try it 5 times each side. get up and do the same thing 30 mins later for the next few hours. gobble some ibuprofen and don't slouch, you'll feel easier later on...

I had the same problem when my back tooth got infected. But my neck didn't hurt though. Just everything from my chin up did. Doctor would be the best bet.

Ice pack usually helps mine. You could put several cubes of ice into a plastic bag, then put the bag into a towel, lie down and hold this onto your neck.
Do not hold ice bag directly onto your neck and it could damage nerves.

Try some ibuprofen and keep your neck warm. The heat makes your muscles relax, so that you wil be able to look to the left.
